Bottling sweetness and sophistication all at once, the best gourmand perfumes promise to surround you with deliciously tempting notes, especially where these nine creamy, vanilla, and candied blends are concerned.
While often overlooked or labelled 'sickly' by some (this once included me, I'm ashamed to say), gourmands are having quite the renaissance. Of course, many of the most timeless and well-loved long-lasting perfumes are gourmands, but the olfactory genre is proving particularly popular among the 2026 fragrance trends. So much so, in fact, that we're seeing more specific and trendy sub-categories emerge, like milk and patisserie perfumes, all of which prove just how multi-faceted and versatile a gourmand blend can be.
Whether you want to smell like freshly-baked madeleines or are seeking a subtle skin scent, with a touch of silky-smooth vanilla, these scents subvert everything you thought you knew about gourmand - and smell incredibly chic while they're at it.
9 of the best gourmand scents that smell sweetly chic
RRP: from £62 for 30ml | Notes: Almond essence, angelica root essence, Madeleine Accord, carrot heart, ambrette absolute, sandalwood, Madagascar Vanilla Pod and musks.

Naomi: If a year ago you'd told me I'd frequently be reaching a scent that smells exactly like a tray of freshly-baked madeleines just out of the oven, I wouldn't have believed you. But here I am, smelling like a literal baked good and loving every whiff. This blend is deliciously sweet and delicate, with almond mingling with vanilla to create that buttery-pastry quality, while ambrette, sandalwood, and musk lend a soft, woody-warmth and closeness. It's a very approachable gourmand, one that feels lightweight and cosy, offering just enough sweetness to earn me compliments for smelling downright delicious but not so sweet that it's in any way headache-inducing."
Who should buy it: those who love a sweet treat and the smell that wafts from bakeries and wish they could bottle it up
RRP: from £225 for 50ml | Notes: neroli, orange blossom and marshmallow.
Reviewed by: Sennen Prickett
Sennen: "Kilian’s Love Don’t Be Shy is a unique and more sophisticated take on a gourmand perfume with its narcotic floral edge, blending notes of rose, orange blossom, and gardenia with creamy marshmallow sugar accord and its warm amber base. This sweet and sensual aroma is a truly luxurious, top-shelf scent that oozes unforgettable opulence, so if you’re looking for a fragrance that is set to leave an impression on everyone you meet, this is it. Personally, I typically reach for this fragrance in the evenings when I’m looking to make a luxe statement with my perfume choice."
Who should buy it: floral fragrance lovers, seeking a distinctive and luxurious gourmand to try
RRP: £195 for 70ml | Notes: gourmand musky accord and tutti-frutti accord
Reviewed by: Aleesha Badkar & Naomi Jamieson
Naomi: "Juicy sweetness meets candied musks, Kurky bursts to life with tutti-frutti goodness, and while that might sound a bit toothache-y and sickly, somehow it isn't. Instead, I'm hit with a wave of nostalgia for hard-boiled colourful fruit sweets, ice lollies, and balmy summer days. Notes of white musk add a creamy warmth, which perfectly balances that fruity opening, affording a scent that is unique, bright and incredibly chic - as to be expected from a Maison Francis Kurkdjian blend."
Who should buy it: fans of tutti-frutti flavours and those wanting a very unique and expensive-smelling take on a gourmand
RRP: from £70 for 30ml | Notes: vanilla and lavender
Reviewed by: Naomi Jamieson
Naomi: "A true vanilla scent, Burberry Goddess is a very well-loved gourmand, thanks to how masterfully it layers the sweet note with soothing lavender. It's rich, silky-smooth and wonderfully warm, the sort of fragrance that is as chic as it is cosy and completely classic. It transcends the seasons, with that vanilla-y base really clinging to the skin. It's moreish and almost impossible not to compliment and remark on whenever you smell it."
Who should buy it: lovers of creamy vanilla scents, seeking something long-lasting and crowd-pleasing.
RRP: £24 for 90ml | Notes: pistachio, almond, heliotrope, jasmine petals.
vanilla, salted caramel and sandalwood
Reviewed by: Sennen Prickett
Sennen: "Arguably the most iconic Sol de Janeiro scent of them all, Cheirosa 62 is a warm gourmand blend with nutty notes of pistachio and almond that dry down to reveal moreish notes of salted caramel, vanilla, and woody sandalwood. It's equal parts sweet and tropical for a truly sunny scent that smells more luxurious than its price tag. As someone who doesn’t typically reach for gourmand scents, this has still managed to earn a spot in my fragrance arsenal thanks to it being a more versatile and wearable gourmand blend that’s also great for layering with other fragrances from your collection."
Who should buy it: those seeking a luxe, summery scent that is easy to layer and travel with
RRP: from £175 for 50ml | Notes: orange, pink pepper, lemon, rum, cacao, cardamom, Bourbon Vanilla, sandalwood and patchouli.
Reviewed by: Naomi Jamieson
Naomi: "Rich and sultry, Dior's Vanilla Diorama is a beautiful interpretation of a vanilla perfume. It's warm and slightly boozy, with hints of sandalwood marrying with rum and bourbon vanilla adding a spicy, honey-like decadence to the blend, while hints of orange and lemon add a layer of juiciness. It's definitely what I would class as a premium winter perfume, though that's not to say you can't also wear it year-round. If you like sweet and smoky smells, you'll love this, no matter the season, as it's very sophisticated."
Who should buy it: fans of the best Dior perfumes and those seeking a very grown-up and luxe take on a gourmand.
RRP: £230 for 100ml | Notes: melon, strawberry, bergamot, apple, coconut, blackcurrant flower, vanilla, powder, and musk
Reviewed by: Naomi Jamieson
Naomi: "Gritti's Chantilly, as the name would suggest, smells exactly like freshly whipped cream. It's lightweight and smooth, with sweet, fruity notes like melon and strawberry combining with milky coconut and vanilla to create a scent that is soft and almost chilled - like a dollop of fresh, cooled cream. It's far from sickly or overpowering, though, thanks to its powdery-musky base, which affords a warm, skin-like quality to the rest. To me, it feels modern and elegant with those notes of coconut and musk really shining through and lingering on my skin."
Who should buy it: fans of milk perfumes seeking something soft, cosy and coconutty - especially for summer wear.
RRP: £57 for 30ml | Notes: jasmine sambac, chestnut, pink berry and vanilla
Reviewed by: Naomi Jamieson
Naomi: "Despite not actually possessing any lactonic notes per se, This is Her! reads like a milk perfume to me. It's fresh and smooth, almost cool ( in a similar way to Gritti's Chantilly), with white florals combining with chestnut and silky vanilla. It somehow manages to be sweet and creamy, whilst remaining lightweight and airy. It's definitely one I would recommend to skin-scent lovers, as it's powdery and sweet but slightly hard to pin down - ideal if you're on the hunt for a distinctive and very chic signature."
Who should buy it: lovers of fresh, airy perfume seeking to add a touch of creamy decadence to their everyday
RRP: £28 for 30ml | Notes: roasted almond, black plum, midnight iris, musk clouds and rum
Reviewed by: Naomi Jamieson
Naomi: "A very moreish option, especially for those on a budget, Le Monde Gourmand's Crème Brulee perfectly balances sweet, roasted notes of almond with powdery iris and rich rum. It's warm and musky, really mirroring the indulgent, creamy dessert with its toasted, caramelised top. It's definitely one of the sweeter scents on this list, but there is a lightness to it that makes it feel very wearable. It's not headachey and will easily layer with some of your other gourmand favourites."
Who should buy it: those seeking an affordable, approachable gourmand that is deliciously sweet and cosy.
As mentioned, gourmands are incredibly popular right now, and we, as a team, think that's down to just how modern and diverse the genre has become. Just a few years ago, gourmands seemed quite one-dimensional, sugary, and vanilla-centric. Now, though, with so many of the chicest perfume houses having launched their own spin, along with demand for more niche ingredients like pistachio and honey on the rise, there's a plethora of unique and complex scents available. Like creamy milk-inspired and dessert-inspired perfumes, to more roasted, musky blends.
What is a gourmand perfume?
"Gourmand perfumes are exactly what the name suggests: the spritz that smells delicious, almost edible, and definitely good enough to eat. The term 'gourmand' entered the fragrance lexicon in the 1990s, and since then the category has flourished," explains our very own in-house Master Perfumer and Home eCommerce Editor, Laura Honey.
"Today, both heritage perfume houses and modern niche brands continue to reinterpret the style, often layering edible notes with amber, spices, or soft woods to create something more sophisticated than sweetness alone."
As for why they're so popular, aside from their mouthwatering notes, gourmands feel very timeless. Smelling delicious isn't reserved for just one season or occasion. Honey also shares that one of the reasons why she loves them is how beautifully they layer with other fragrance families. "They can add softness and texture to different bases. Vanilla, for example, can brighten beautifully alongside citrus notes while creamy milk perfumes pair effortlessly with delicate florals such as peony or rose."
How we tested the best gourmand scents
As with our guide to the best perfumes for women and best floral fragrances, we tested every single one of these scents first-hand. We spritzed, sniffed, and wore each blend for a day or more, monitoring how its notes developed, its longevity, and, of course, how many compliments it garnered. Several of these scents are also long-standing favourites of the team, which they've been wearing for months, if not years.
Maison Margiela's Afternoon Delight, for instance, is a firm favourite of Naomi's, while Aleesha loves Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Kurky and has been wearing it for months now.
How to choose and what to look out for
"At the heart of many gourmand fragrances, you’ll find notes reminiscent of desserts and confectionery: chocolate, caramel, toffee, praline, coffee, milk, vanilla, almond, or ripe fruits such as cherry, strawberry, and orange. These ingredients evoke warmth and comfort, but also nostalgia," says Honey.
"Our sense of smell is deeply tied to memory, and gourmand notes often remind us of life’s celebrations: the scent of baking, shared treats, or special occasions. That sense of indulgence is part of their charm: wearing a gourmand fragrance can feel a little like carrying a delicious secret with you. After all, who doesn’t want to smell good enough to eat?"
