Where history and fine craftsmanship meet the modern age, Creed's perfumes can be found, with their chic, tailored notes that suit any season, occasion and preference.
What began as a luxury tailor in 1760's Mayfair, Creed is now one of the most established fragrance houses in the world, touted for its niche and artisan long-lasting perfumes, crafted from the finest ingredients and packaged in elegant, instantly recognisable bottles. You've likely already heard of Aventus, the brand's best-selling scent (which can be found in several iterations, for men and women), but the House of Creed boasts many other premium blends, spanning fresh Alpine-like perfumes to ambery florals and powdery perfumes that feature rose at their centre. Essentially, there's a Creed fragrance for everyone, but like with the best Penhaligon's perfumes, with such prestige inevitably comes quite a high price.
So to ensure you're investing in the right blend for you or a loved one - especially if you're shopping online - we've tested nine of the most popular and iconic perfumes, first-hand (including the brand's newest launch), to share our impressions of their elegant and distinctive aromas.
The 9 best Creed perfumes that radiate lasting luxury
Whether you favour classic rose perfumes or silky amber scents, Creed is the place to find a forever favourite, the sort that feels timeless, immersing you in the opulence of ages past, whilst still remaining relevant, unique and perfectly chic. From the gold crown emblem to the proud-looking bottles, these fragrances command attention and compliments with every spritz, especially where these nine are concerned...
RRP: from £175 for 30ml | Notes: bergamot, blackcurrant, galbanum, orange, tea, ozonic accord, musk and sandalwood
Like a breath of crisp alpine air, Creed's Silver Mountain Water bursts to life with bergamot and resinous galbadum. It's beautifully green and fresh, but there's also this musky, woody base that mingles with its chilled, icy opening. To me, this really evokes images of sunlight sparkling over majestic, snowy peaks. It's so clean but not in a clinical, cleaning-product sort of way, like some citrusy blends can sometimes be. Instead, it remains true to its name and captures what a cool splash of mountain water might smell like on your skin.
Who should buy it: lovers of crisp, green and citrus scents, seeking something luxe and versatile for everyday wear
RRP: from £175 for 30ml | Notes: green apple, bergamot, pink pepper, lemon, rose, lilac, ylang-ylang, blackcurrant, pineapple, peach, sandalwood, cedarwood, patchouli, musk and ambroxan
A symphony of bright citrus and florals is the best way I can think to describe the brand's iconic Aventus For Her. Notes of green apple, sharp bergamot and lemon zing to the surface, followed by elegant rose and lilac. Then sweeter hints of pineapple and peach emerge, before the blend simmers down into a muskier, citrusy finish, grounded by hints of cedar and ambroxan. It's multi-faceted and intriguing, a new note presenting itself with every sniff. With that said, though, it's not pungent or overpowering, but it is definitely a sophisticated and distinguished scent. So much so, that if you're going to wear it, you'd better take it someplace nice and really show its finely-crafted blend off.
Who should buy it: those wanting a fragrance that will leave them smelling instantly classy and expensive.
RRP: from £220 for 50ml | Notes: Timur berry, bergamot, pink pepper, rose centifolia, geranium, blackcurrant bud, vetiver, cedarwood and amberwood
For my fresh perfume fans out there, Wild Vetiver, which is the newest addition to Creed's collection, definitely warrants a spritz. It's green and dewy, like traipsing through vegetation after heavy rain. Timur berry and bergamot meet white florals and earthy vetiver to create a scent that is verdant and lush, while base notes of cedar and amberwood add a sophisticated richness. It was crafted to smell like an English garden party wandering into the wild, and it definitely delivers.
Who should buy it: lovers of clean, almost grassy signatures or a fresh springtime perfume. It's also a lovely pick for floral fragrance fans who want dewy and bright, rather than powdery.
RRP: from £175 for 30ml | Notes: lemon, pink pepper, apple, bergamot & blackcurrant, pineapple, jasmine, patchouli, birch, ambroxan, cedarwood, oakmoss and musk
Whether you're seeking the perfect gift for a man in your life or prefer to wear muskier, more oaky scents yourself, Creed's Aventus might be worth some investigation. Regarded as one of the most iconic men's colognes and the brand's most well-known, signature blend, Aventus is the epitome of refinement. It's confident and cool, with crisp notes of lemon, apple and pineapple melding with jasmine, spicy ambroxan, heavy cedar and oakmoss. 'Aftershave-y' is the word that comes to mind when I smell it, and that to me means icy freshness hitting skin.
Who should buy it: those seeking a long-lasting and distinctive signature or a very luxe scent to gift.
RRP: £175 for 30ml | Notes: mandarin, bergamot, pink pepper, trio of rose, peony, lily of the valley, musk, vanilla, ambroxan and cashmere wood
Having sniffed and worn many of Creed's scents, Eladaria is probably my favourite of the bunch. It's all powdery, dewy florals and cosy musks, but there's also this fluffy, cashmere softness that makes it feel so delicate and comforting. Its hints of rose, peony and lily of the valley bring a soapy quality to it, which I love, but it's in no way harsh or head-achy, thanks to its skin-like notes of ambroxan and musk. There's a sheerness to it that feels very elegant and regal, whilst still boasting an impressive, lingering sillage.
Who should buy it: powdery perfume lovers and those seeking a soft, dainty scent to wear every day
RRP: from £175 for 30ml | Notes: black cherry, saffron, pink pepper, Rose de Mai, violet, cashmere wood, peony, frankincense, myrrh, amber and musk
A chic and sultry take on a fruity-floral, Carmina opens with a rich and juicy twist of black cherry, married with a warm and slightly spiced blend of saffron and pink pepper, violet, peony and musky-amber. There's also cashmere wood and frankincense in there, which really warms the scent, adding a luxe smoothness. The violet note, for me, really lingers, and when combined with the cherry, I can't help but be reminded of floral gums (there's a throwback sweet for you), which I personally love. It's very refined and classy. Of all of the Creed scents I've tested, this, along with Eladaria feel the most versatile and wearable for everyday, as someone who tends to gravitate towards woody and musky floral fragrances.
Who should buy it: lovers of cherry perfumes and scents with classic florals, like violet and peony.
RRP: from £175 for 30ml | Notes: osmanthus, magnolia, saffron, tuberose, passion fruit, agarwood, Javanese patchouli, Madagascan vanilla, incense, myrrh, ambroxan, Chinese cedarwood and musk
Deep, sensual and spicy; three words that immmediately spray to mind the first time I smelt Queen Of Silk. True to its name, this chic blend captures the opulence of fine silk fabric, like dark purple drapes and elegant floor-length gowns. It's bold and incredibly sophisticated, with soft white florals blurring into luxe, warming hints of saffron and smoky incense. There's also this addictive sweetness that lingers, while notes of Chinese cedarwood and musk add further to its rich, toasted warmth. It's the sort of scent that belongs in decadent restaurants or at dinner parties, dripping candlesticks, plump velvet armchairs, and large glasses of red wine, a-plenty.
Who should buy it: those seeking a very decadent and chic fragrance, especially to wear in the evening
RRP: from £175 for 30ml | Notes: bergamot, grapefruit, pink pepper, blackcurrant, pineapple, raspberry, aldehydes, orris butter, jasmine, Bulgarian rose, oud, vanilla, cedarwood, musk and patchouli
This Creed scent is the particular favourite of our Digital Beauty Editor, Fiona McKim, who speaks very highly of its luxurious notes: "The clue as to why I love Royal Princess Oud is right there in the name. Quiet luxury, this is not. Quite the opposite, in fact - it’s decadent, flamboyant, and wears its regality proudly. The scent itself is my favourite kind, an oud-soaked berry and rose blend (see also: Fredric Malle Portrait of a Lady), and the gold-capped bottle in look-at-me red is beyond fabulous on a dressing table. I wear this whenever I want to smell expensive and get noticed, and it never lets me down."
Who should buy it: oud and rose perfume fans, wanting a very elegant and luxe signature
RRP: from £220 for 50ml | Notes: peppermint, verbena, lemon, bergamot, galbanum, geranium, lavender, violet, sandalwood, cedarwood, ambroxan and oakmoss
Another one of Creed's popular men's colognes, Green Irish Tweed is very minty-fresh and green, with its opening notes of peppermint, verbena and lemon. Like Penhaligon's The Cut, this scent really does smell reminiscent of thick, tweed blazers and smart tailoring, set against a backdrop of sprawling green fields and towering oak trees. It softens slightly into a warmer, richer base of woods and moss. It's definitely what I would describe as green, and almost shower gel-like, which I think makes it a lovely choice when one wants to smell clean, swauve and polished.
Who should buy: those who prefer woody, green scents over florals or traditionally 'feminine' blends. It will also make an ideal gift for the men in your life, especially if they're a George Clooney fan, as the actor is widely rumoured to wear it.
How we tested the best Creed perfumes
As with all our guides, like the best perfumes for women, the team and I sniffed, spritzed and wore all of the featured Creed fragrances first-hand. I spent time studying each blend, paying attention to which notes stood out and lingered longest on my skin, as well as sharing my first impressions.
I also asked collegeauges for their thoughts on Creed's scents, specifically in the case of Royal Princess Oud, which is a longstanding favourite of our Digital Beauty Editor, Fiona McKim.
What is Creed's most famous fragrance?
This accolade must go to Aventus, both the original and the For Her iteration. The former blends notes of lemon, pineapple, cedarwood, oakmoss and musk and is counted among the most iconic and recognisable fragrances.
What celebrity wears Creed perfume?
Much like with the best Jo Malone perfumes and Le Labo blends, Creed has its own share of celeb clientele, including Jennifer Lopez, who is rumoured to be a fan of Silver Mountain Water, as was the late David Bowie. Meanwhile, George Clooney, Pierce Brosnan and Clint Eastwood are reported to favour the brand's Green Irish Tweed scent.
