Naturally fluttery lashes can be yours with the best eyelash grower serums on the market. These strengthening and growth-boosting products are sweeping the beauty industry and it seems like every brand is bringing out a version of a fortifying lash serum.

If your lashes are sparse, short, and straight, even the best mascara might not be enough to achieve the flutter you desire. If you want to know how to grow eyelashes naturally, then trying an eyelash grower serum is probably the way to go. "When faced with stress, menopause symptoms due to declining estrogen levels, poor diet, topical stresses such as perming, tinting and lash extensions, the lash will not survive all three phases of the hair cycle,” explains Natalia Ferrara, Global Educator at Revitalash Cosmetics. “The best eyelash grower serum provides a healthy environment for your lashes to breathe and thrive by combating biological and topical stressors. This allows for your lashes to survive all three phases of your hair cycle.”

With so many eyelash growth serums now on the market with vastly varying prices, it can be tricky to know where to turn. So our expert tester put the latest and greatest on trial to bring you our pick of the best eyelash grower serums for natural flutter.

How do the best eyelash grower serums work?

All eyelash serums work by nourishing the roots of the lashes with active ingredients like peptides, Vitamin E, castor oil, or hyaluronic acid to support the growth cycle. “It takes three stages for your eyelashes to essentially replenish in their hair cycle: anagen-growth phase; catagen-transition phase and telogen-resting phase," explains Natalia. "During the anagen phase (lasting 30-45 days) only 40% of your upper lashes and 15% of your lower lashes are growing at any one time. It can take four to eight weeks to fully replace an eyelash. Lash pigment and follicle shrinkage happen in the catagen phase, and the lash sits in the telogen phase for over 100 days before the lash falls out and a new one is replaced.”

A powerful eyelash grower serum should support the lashes within the anagen phase to encourage growth. But you won’t be able to see a change overnight, average eyelash growth cycles are around three months, so it will take a little while to notice a change.

How long do eyelash grower serums take to work?

“There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question,” says Natalia. “Some people see results in terms of improved lash condition and overall lash shine and flexibility in as little as a week, but for the full effect, it’s usually longer. Generally, we say three to six weeks to capitalize on the anagen phase of the hair cycle.”

To see results as soon as possible, Natalia suggests applying your eyelash serum on a regular basis, “It’s important to apply the serum once a day for at least three months to achieve full lash benefits.” As with much of our hair and skincare routine, consistency is everything. Most of these products are meant to be applied at night but skipping a few days in between applications can lessen their effectiveness.

One of the mid-range options, this lash serum can actually work on brows as well as eyelashes. Ingredients like arginine and jujuba fruit extract condition and strengthen the lashes and do a fab job of making them look fuller.

The drawback (or plus, for some) is the doe foot applicator. It may not be the most convenient way of applying lash serum as the brand recommend wiping the wand for hygiene after applying. To us, that seems like a waste of an expensive product.

Our tester did love the formula though and found it comfortable to wear with no irritation so, if you can get past the applicator, this one is your winner for thicker lashes.

Reasons to avoid

If your lashes are seemingly beyond repair, this is the serum to go for. Its innovative Hexatein 1 Complex contains a mix of lash-boosting peptides and proteins that work together to restore healthy lash growth.

It comes in at an average price point on the market, meaning it is a little bit on the pricey side, but you do get a sophisticated formula in exchange for that. Our tester loved the formula but did find it a little irritating on the eyes so if your eyes are a little sensitive, you may want to try something else.
