Whistles Black Friday: This bargain sweatshirt perfectly sums up my lockdown mood

Whistles Black Friday sale is brimming with brilliant bargains, but there's one particular piece that's caught my eye.

Is it ironic to wear a sweatshirt with a day of the week on it when if I’m being honest, I have no clue what day, week or month it is? The only thing I’m sure of is that the year is 2020, and I quite frankly can’t wait for it to be over.

For me, the only glimmer of joy in what has otherwise been a pretty shoddy year, is that I’ve got to spend the majority of it in a sweatshirt and leggings. And, that I can stock up on more loungewear for less on Black Friday. Hence why this Whistles Black Friday sale sweatshirt is going straight in my basket.

The beauty of a slogan sweatshirt for me, is that they’re very fashionable (thanks Bella Freud), and therefore, make it easy to convince people you’ve actually gotten dressed. I’ve got pretty much everyone fooled by my slogan sweatshirt ensemble - the postman, my colleagues on Zoom, even my boyfriend.

As the nights draw in and temperatures start to dip (I’ve heard rumours this is set to be the coldest winter on record, and am taking no chances) there’s no better feeling than snuggling into your cosies.

Whistles Saturday Sweat (don't worry, I have no intention of exercising in it) has been carefully crafted from super-soft cotton, with a comfy crew neck and heat-trapping ribbed cuff sleeves.

The caramel colour is surprisingly flattering on all skin tones, adding warmth to drab, sun-starved lockdown complexions.

To complete the set (and avoid any Zoom based embarrassment) I’m planning to splash out on Whistle’s Barrel Leg Joggers, now £59.25, too. The high waist and structured, straight legs feel more Lady of Leisure than Queen of the Sofa, which is just the image revamp I need right now. Sizes are disappearing fast in grey marl, but the cool khaki shade remains fully stocked.

Of course, there’s plenty of gorgeous dresses, trendy blouses and stylish skirts to be found in the Whistles Black Friday sale, but don’t feel under pressure to trade in your loungewear just yet.

It’s official: 2020 is the year of the sweatshirt, and we’re all in it together.

She caught the magazine bug during a stint as Fashion Editor of her university newspaper alongside her English degree, and hasn’t looked back since. As for the fashion bug, that came as part and parcel of growing up in the 90s, but the less said about that the better!

Jess’ average day in the office is spent researching the latest fashion trends, chatting to industry tastemakers and scouring the internet to bring you this season’s must-buy pieces - as well as advice on how to wear them. Weekends are equally fashion-focused, and Jess has been known to visit no less than five Zara stores in a single day in search of the perfect occasion dress.

The only thing that comes close to a buzz of finally tracking down that much-coveted dress is the joy of discovering a new beauty wonder product or hero ingredient. A beauty obsessive, Jess has tried everything from cryotherapy to chemical peels (minus the Samantha in Sex and The City-worthy redness) and interviewed experts including Jo Malone and Trinny Woodall.
