If you've been watching Ryan Murphy's Love Story, there's a high chance that you've found yourself lusting after Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy's carefully curated capsule wardrobe just like I have.

As a sunglasses-obsessed fashion editor, when I spotted CBK's Nineties oval-shaped sunglasses (the Aldo frames from Selima Optique), I knew I had to try the shape. Unfortunately, I didn't have a spare $500 to spend, but I think I've found an incredible designer lookalike in the shape of the £55 Outta Love frames from Le Specs.

Specifications

Price: From £55

Size range: Average

Bridge and Nosepads: High Bridge Fit, 17mm width

Material: Acetate

Designed with a narrow fit, this shape is best suited to those with a slim face or petite features, so as someone with a more rounded visage I wasn't sure they would suit me. However, thanks to the slightly rectangular edges and a drawn-out oval shape, these sunglasses are still flattering on my wider face.

Will I be adding a pair to my summer capsule wardrobe? Absolutely!

Le Specs Outta Love Sunglasses Review: Style & Fit

Just like clothing, many styles of sunglasses come in different fits, and certain frame shapes flatter particular face shapes. The Le Specs Outta Love sunglasses are slightly narrower than other styles in their current collection, with a frame width of 136mm - about 10mm narrower than other frames in their current collection.

If - like me - you have a wider face, you may feel the pinch slightly from this style. Oval shapes are typically most suited to petite, narrow and oval-shaped faces, but this frame is surprisingly flattering on my rounder face, thanks to an elongated oval shape that gives the frame a more rectangular feel, which is a flattering shape on rounder faces, sharpening softer features.

Sitting high on the bridge of the nose, these sunglasses sit close to the face but have a temple length of 140mm, meaning that if you prefer for them to sit lower, there is a comfortable allowance. Thanks to their lightweight frame, there is very little drag, and they stay in place well, making them ideal if you're wondering what to wear in the heat once temperatures rise.

Le Specs Outta Love Sunglasses Review: Function & Technology

Le Specs sunglasses UV rating depends on the colour of the lens - the darker you go, the better the protection offered. The black pair I tested offers Category 3 UV protection, which is rated excellent - protecting your eyes between 82-92%. This category is the best for everyday use - it will stop you squinting on bright, sunny days and can be worn for driving, unlike Category 4.

If you're planning on spending plenty of time outside or around reflective surfaces such as the sea or a pool, darker lenses are the ones for you. If you're heading to a sunshine break this summer, add a pair to your holiday outfit ideas immediately.

When shopping for pairs with lighter lenses, it's important to check the UV category before you buy and consider how you might wear them, as styles with light brown and yellow lenses will not offer adequate protection for brighter days but may be enough for overcast, less glary days.

Le Specs Outta Love Sunglasses Review: Value

Priced at only £55, Le Specs Outta Love sunglasses are unquestionably good value for money. Not only do they offer cool frame designs, but the high level of UV protection makes them a no-brainer when you're shopping for the best sunglasses.

As someone with sensitive eyes, I wear sunglasses every day - even when it's not sunny - so I'm always looking for pairs that offer high levels of protection without compromising on style, and Le Specs Outta Love sunglasses definitely deliver on both fronts.

Will I be snapping up a second pair to team with my summer work outfits? Most probably - I've already got my eye on the timeless tortoiseshell pair with green lenses. The classic colour combination is one of my favourites and will work with every outfit in my summer capsule wardrobe.

Le Specs Outta Love Sunglasses Review: Verdict

With prices starting at just £55, Le Specs Outta Love sunglasses are a great addition to every wardrobe for sunny days. This contemporary update to a classic sunglasses design is one that you'll return to year after year.

The brand is also a celebrity style secret that has been spotted on everyone from Beyoncé and Gigi Hadid to Meghan Markle and Katie Holmes, so you'll be in good company.

Made from lightweight acetate, this style doesn't slip down or feel heavy on the nose or ears while wearing, and the classic black/black colour combination is both timeless and versatile.

One thing's for sure - the brand's Outta Love sunglasses have plenty of (Le) Specs appeal!
