Not all little black dresses are created the same, nor do many end up with as much meaning behind them. However, the LBD designed by Christina Stambolian and worn by Princess Diana is one of the most memorable of all.

The dress became one of the most talked-about dresses of the time as it was what she chose to wear in her first public appearance following her separation from Prince Charles.  

Worn at a gala at the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens back in June 1994, Diana dazzled in the form-fitting black dress. It hit just above the knee and its sweetheart neckline showed her decolletage and shoulders—sending the message that she didn't have to adhere to the royal family's dress code anymore.
