New photos of Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana in The Crown Season Five have caused a major stir online, as fans reel at the uncanny resemblance between the two women.

Princess Diana fans have experienced serious déjà vu this week, following the release of new photos of Elizabeth Debicki on the highly anticipated The Crown Season Five

The behind-the-scenes shots, which capture the Australian actress re-enacting the Princess of Wales’ trip to Egypt in 1992, look eerily similar to the real-life late royal.

The sneak peeks, released exclusively to the Daily Mail, came as a delightful treat for fans of the Netflix series after the first photos of Elizabeth Debicki as Diana failed to live up to their high expectations.

The latest pictures show Emma Corrin’s successor filming scenes in the historic Spanish town of Baelo Claudia, kitted out in a grey short-sleeved dress that’s almost identical to the one worn by the royal icon herself on her famous visit to the Middle-Eastern country. Elizabeth’s costume is completed by is a pair of sunglasses, sensible sandals, and of course, the signature Princess Diana hairstyle.

The Crown’s fans were quick to react to the photos, with many praising The Great Gatsby star's uncanny resemblance to the real Diana.

“So you're telling me that's NOT Diana herself??!! She looks exactly like her,” one person wrote.

“I THOUGHT THIS WAS ACTUALLY DIANA OMG???” another stunned viewer said.

Elizabeth was also accompanied by her on-screen ‘sons’, child actors Timothee Sambor (Prince William) and Teddy Hawley (Prince Harry). Like their mother, the boys looked casually regal in their polished summer outfits, wearing matching blue polo shirts and beige shorts. Dominic West, who will replace Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, was also snapped on location at the sunny European site.

Diana traveled to Egypt in May 1992 for a five-day-long tour, after she was personally invited by the country’s First Lady Suzanne Mubarak. The jam-packed visit saw the Princess visit the pyramids, a welfare society for mothers and children as well as a polio rehabilitation center.

However, while the trip itself did happen, its recreation in the Netflix show seems to have changed some major details. The Crown’s accuracy is likely to come under fire once again when viewers discover Diana undertook the engagement solo, without the presence of her Charles or her children. According to royal biographer Tina Brown, “Travel overseas was critical to her strategy of creating an identity not dependent on the Firm.”

The Crown Season Five will be released on Netflix November 2022.
