Prince Charles launches half-term nature-inspired activities for children in sweet video message

Prince Charles has launched a 'nature-inspired' half-term challenge for children - in a bid to get them outside and into nature.

·   The Duke of Cornwall launched the #PoWNatureChallenge – which includes 6 tasks over 6 days.

·    The video was posted to the Clarence House Instagram and Twitter and saw the prince explain the half-term fun activities for children.

·     It follows royal news that the jumper Kate wore for an online video call this week has sold out within days.

In the video, which was posted on Saturday, and has already had 125,000 views Prince Charles said: "I know it has been an incredibly hard year for everyone. We've all had to think very carefully about how to keep ourselves and our families safe, which has meant we have had to stay very close to home. 

He went on the explain why now is a perfect time to be exploring nature: "It's at this time of year that all sorts of wonderful things start happening as nature wakes up the world from its winter sleep. Buds on trees will soon become leaves, bulbs will start pushing spring flowers up through the soil and we’ll soon be hearing the wonderful sound of birdsong every morning."

He then started to explain the nature challenge: "So, here's a challenge for you. While you have a little time off from all your online learning, can you encourage your family and friends to go out with you to take a really close look at the wonderful things nature is now doing, and how the same patterns occur over and over again?"

In the video, which has had hundreds of messages of support, he went on to explain how you can take part: "See for instance, how many birds you can spot; plant the seeds left from cooking vegetables and see how long it takes them to sprout. 

The Duke of Cornwall encouraged children and adults to share their finds by tweeting and posting pictures on Instagram with the hashtag #PoWNatureChallenge

A second post explained what you will need for Monday's challenge, including seeds, a camera and some colouring pens.

It's not the first time Prince Charles has spoken about nature about environmental issues, last week, in a heartfelt feature for Farmers Weekly, he opened up about the ‘urgent need’ to tackle sustainability and environmental issues within the agricultural industry.
