Sex and the City fans, brace yourselves—Samantha Jones may never grace our screens again.

Long-time viewers of the HBO show were devastated by the news that Kim Cattrall would not be reprising her role as the beloved PR executive for its revival, And Just Like That, and now it seems like they might have to face yet another crushing reality.

Sex and the City bosses hinted at how Samantha Jones will be written out of the reboot back in February but failed to give any concrete details on her character's absence. HBO Max chief content officer Casey Blows offered the explanation that "Friendships fade, and new friendships start" when questioned on the subject, leaving fans to believe the no-nonsense trailblazer had simply lost touch with Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte. This answer was enough to satisfy the show's loyal following —until now.

Ever since filming commenced in New York in spring, it's been a lot easier for viewers to predict what's to come in the highly-anticipated spin-off. The public has been treated to plenty of And Just Like That sneak peeks over the past few months, from both sidewalk spectators and cast members alike.

Fans were sent wild after Sarah Jessica Parker shared a loved-up photo from the SATC set yesterday, while New Yorkers have been quick to post their own behind-the-scenes snaps as filming continues on Big Apple's iconic streets.

For the most part, the frenzy has surrounded certain character appearances, like Chris Noth officially returning as Mr. Big, as well as the cast's impeccable costume design. (Speaking of, here's where you can shop the looks from the Sex and the City reboot before they're gone.)

However, it hasn't taken long for the whereabouts of Samantha Jones to once again become a hot topic. A new TikTok video has gone viral after revealing And Just Like That footage of extras dressed in black, hinting at the possibility of a funeral scene.

“I was walking down the street in New York City and saw a huge crowd and realized they were filming for Sex And The City,” Evan Kline, the individual who posted the clip, wrote. “But everyone was wearing all black. Is it for Samantha’s funeral?”

The short video prompted an outpouring of reactions, with many TikTokers refusing to accept Kline's theory. Determined to keep the character of Samantha alive, some suggested it was for Mr. Big's funeral, others wondered if it could be related to Steve Brady.

"Maybe they kill off Miranda's husband because he's on another show already?" one person commented. David Eigenberg, who has played Miranda's 'nice guy' love interest since Season Two of the hit show, currently stars as Lieutenant Christopher Herrmann on NBC's Chicago Fire. With most of his scenes shot at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, Sex and the City fans are right to be concerned about the beloved actor's ability to keep up with both roles.

With And Just Like That insiders staying hush-hush on the mysterious funeral scene, it looks like we'll have to wait until the Sex and the City reboot release date to find out the truth.
