Duchess Meghan just made a huge donation to an important cause

The Duchess of Sussex has made a generous donation to a charity that aims to support refugees and vulnerable migrants.

The organisation, Migrateful UK, support migrants to run their own cookery classes. They shared a Tweet recently, thanking Meghan for donating £8,000 on behalf of The Royal Foundation, to help the cause.

Migrateful said, 'We're so excited to share that we have received a donation of £8000 from The Royal Foundation on behalf of The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle! We are immensely grateful for this donation which will go towards supporting the Migrateful mission 💜'.

The donation from the Duchess, who is now living with her husband Prince Harry and son Archie in Los Angeles, is one of the first made public since she and the Duke stepped down from royal life.

Migrateful run cookery classes that are led by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants who are "struggling to integrate and access employment."

On their website, they explain, "The cookery classes provide ideal conditions not just for learning English and building confidence, but also for promoting contact and cultural exchange with the wider community."

"Due to legal, linguistic and social barriers, finding work can be extremely difficult for many migrants. Being unable to provide for themselves and their families has significant negative effects on self-esteem and mental health.

"Migrateful’s mission is to empower and celebrate refugees and vulnerable migrants on their journey to integration, by supporting them to run their own cookery classes."

Since stepping down as royals and moving to America, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have spoken out on a range of important causes.

Meghan delivered a moving speech in light of the Black Lives Matter movement, and she also spoke at a Girl Up Leadership Summit.

Encouraging women and girls to speak up in support of one another, she said, "Use your voice both on-and-offline to do just that – build each other up, support each other. There will always be negative voices and sometimes those voices can appear to be outsized, and sometimes they can appear to be painfully loud...But your voices are those of truth. And hope. And your voices can and should be much louder."
