Kate Moss just gave gladiator sandals her seal of approval - consider them back for good
The supermodel knows how to do summer holidays in style
When it comes to style, Kate Moss loves the classics - skinny jeans, leather jackets and ballet flats. But for holiday outfits, this year she's bringing back the Noughties shoe trend I never thought I'd see again.
Photographed in the Ibiza sunshine, she looked effortlessly chic (as she always does, I mean, she’s Kate Moss) in a black, lace-trimmed camisole and a raw-hem denim miniskirt. The cool and casual pairing is one I’m definitely bookmarking for my upcoming getaway, but it was her choice of comfortable sandals that really caught my eye.
Plenty of forgotten shoe trends have been making a comeback recently, from jelly sandals to wedge mules, but the gladiator sandal has until now kept itself out of the fashion spotlight. But, of course, if anyone was going to bring back this boho staple, it was going to be Kate.
Shop gladiator sandals
These luxe leather sandals offer such an elevated take on the classic gladiator sandal, with their mismatch of crisscrossing straps creating a beautiful braided design. Wear them with your best summer dresses, from mini to maxi.
With their thin sole, low block heel and buckle-adorned straps, these gladiator sandals are so sleek and versatile. One reviewer wrote: "These are extremely comfortable and look good with lots of outfits. Easy to wear." For less than £28, these are a great option for the last days of summer.
How to style yours
Like Kate, wear your gladiator sandals to add interest to a laidback denim mini skirt like this one, or even pair of flattering shorts.
Maybe we can thank Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, but either way, the gladiator sandal is firmly back on our fashion radar. Their comeback might even be a bit divisive, since in recent years, we’ve collectively enjoyed a more minimalist take on sandals, with flip-flops and simple, slip-on styles being the favourite choice to wear with capsule wardrobe staples like midi dresses and jeans.
The gladiator design couldn’t be further away from that, offering a nostalgic, multi-strap – some might even say cage-like – look that evokes a real Noughties nostalgia.
But while their look is loud, styling gladiator sandals couldn’t be easier, and Kate proves that they offer a bold contrast when styled alongside simple and understated everyday outfits. You can, of course, pair them with more elevated outfits too, with the strappy look working brilliantly to add contrast to tailored trousers and wide-leg jeans.
