It feels wrong to address Christmas this early in the year, but these perfectly personalised decorations are a very good reason to do so. While scrolling the 'New In' home section at Marks & Spencer, I saw that this year's novelty decs had already started to drop and speaking from personal experience after missing out on the adorable whippet tree ornament last year, I fear they won't hang around for long (no pun intended).

It's a running joke in the w&h office that we can't get through the afternoon without a packet of elite M&S biscuits, so I was thrilled to see their signature cookies become a main character for this year's novelty tree decorations. Of course, I immediately shared the new collection in the group chat – what followed was a wishlist of different designs that spoke to each member of the team and their personalities.

It's safe to say the virtual shopping basket filled very quickly – and it seems that we are not the only ones going early on our Christmas tree themes because many of the new baubles are already '#1 Bestseller' and 'In demand, sold 80 in the last 5 days'.

We'll gladly grab ours now to avoid disappointment, and put them away without giving them another thought until a more appropriate time comes. Which one will you choose to represent you on the tree this year?

I've asked the w&h team which one of the new decorations appeals to their personality most. Naturally, Caroline Parr, our fashion ecommerce editor, has chosen the leopard print duo, saying: "I like my tree to be an eclectic mix of ornaments, rather than colour-coordinated, and there's definitely room for some more leopard print in my decoration collection. The little shoes are adorable, too!"

While Laura Honey, our homes ecommerce editor and book reviewer, has opted for the cat and festive books hanging decoration. "This decoration duo is me in a nutshell," she informs me. " As the family’s resident bookworm, I celebrate the festive season through having my nose buried in novels. And, of course, no cosy evening reading session is complete without a cat curled up on my lap."
