With the government’s announcement that we can now book in trips around the country from 4th July, many of us have been straight on the Internet looking for a booking.

Anyone who has been plagued with cabin fever over the past nearly four months that we’ve been stuck in lockdown will be desperate to book in any staycation that’s possible.

But it turns out we could have an issue with getting an available booking.

Whether it’s a hotel, holiday rental, campsite or caravan park, with the whole country rushing to book in a staycation, summer dates are being quickly booked up.

“Over the past two days, the summer holidays have been incredibly popular. They are now selling at just over seven times the rate they were last year,” James Starkey, Chief Marketing Officer at holidaycottages.co.uk, told Telegraph Travel. “Any additional availability we had whilst people weren’t booking over the past few months is therefore being filled up very quickly.”

Even campsites are in the same boat, with Mike Bevens, Managing Director of Glamping agency Canopy & Stars, telling the publication, “People need to book very quickly if they want a holiday in the UK this summer.

“We’re seeing exceptionally high demand at the moment; since Boris Johnson’s announcement on Tuesday, bookings have trebled for July and August holidays and website demand has increased by 176 per cent.”

However, he added, “There is still a chance to grab a break.

“Some spaces do still have limited availability and we will be adding a few more new places over the next week or so.”
