The John Lewis Christmas advert 2021 is going to be released next month and there are already rumors flying about as to what we can expect. So, here is what we know so far...
We all know it is well and truly the festive season when the John Lewis Christmas advert finally reaches our screens.
John Lewis has always pulled out the stops when it comes to their Christmas adverts and the expectations for this year's advert are just as high as ever. So in anticipation of the advert's release, here are all the rumors about the new advert and some reminders about the corkers that the brand has released in previous years.
When will the John Lewis Christmas advert 2021 be released?
It has not been confirmed when the John Lewis advert will be released. The brand likes to keep its lips firmly shut so that we are all caught off guard with excitement when the advert finally drops.
In previous years, the advert has dropped just a few weeks before Christmas. In 2020, the company released the 'Give a Little Love' advert on 13 November 2020.
In 2019, John Lewis released the 'Excitable Edgar' advert on 14 November, and in 2018 they released 'The Boy and the Piano,' which featured Elton John, on 15 November.
So it can probably be speculated that the 2021 advert will be released in mid-November.
Who will sing the John Lewis Christmas advert 2021 song?
It has been rumored that Adele will be singing the song used for the John Lewis advert. This is because Adele is set to release a new album and has teased a song titled, 'Easy On Me' which is set to be released 15 October.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said, "Having teased her new song, Adele is a hot favorite to be John Lewis's choice to sing in their iconic Christmas advert."
The spokesperson also mentioned that there are some other British artists who are also in the mix, including Coldplay and Oasis.
He said, "However, the British songstress has stiff competition from the likes of Anne Marie at 5/1, Arlo Parks at 7/1 and Freya Riding at 12/1. Established names such as Ed Sheeran and Coldplay are 14/1 and 33/1 respectively, while Oasis are an outside shout at 100/1."
What will the John Lewis Christmas advert 2021 be about?
In previous years, John Lewis has used their advert to shine a light on charitable organizations.
In 2015, John Lewis and Age UK partnered up for their 'Man on the Moon' advert. This advert was a real tear-jerker and encouraged awareness about those who are lonely at Christmas.
It hasn't been confirmed whether John Lewis will partner with another charitable organization, but it is likely that once again the advert will be a sweet and emotional advert that will have us all reaching for the tissues.
What was the first John Lewis Christmas advert to really capture the public's attention?
The first John Lewis Christmas advert was released in 2007. The advert was called 'Shadows' and featured a number of people stacking items together to create a silhouette of a woman and her dog in the snow.
Since 2007 an advert has been released by the brand every year. However, the first advert that truly captured the public's attention was released in 2011 and was titled 'The Long Wait'. This was the first advert with a narrative and depicted a small boy impatiently waiting for Christmas.
At first, it seems that the boy is desperate to open his own gifts but as Christmas morning arrives, he runs past his stocking and into his parent's room to give them the gifts he wrapped himself and has been waiting to give them.
What is the most popular John Lewis Christmas advert of all time?
Although there have been a lot of great adverts, there is one that has been voted the most popular John Lewis advert of all time.
The Independent voted 'The Long Wait' in 2011 as the best John Lewis advert of all time. Smooth radio voted 2014's 'Monty the Penguin' as the best, as did Digital Spy.
This advert featured a little boy whose pet penguin is looking for love. The advert is adorable and although it's a little bit twee, it's the perfect feel-good advert with the message, "Give someone the Christmas they've been dreaming of."
