The most recent Wordle game has frustrated a number of players who struggled to solve this challenge on Thursday, September 29, 2022.
Wordle players have been completely bamboozled by yet another tricky five-letter word as the game makers at the New York Times challenged players to solve an uncommon word.
While this isn't the first time players have been thrown a curveball - as words such as; usurp, leery, coyly, and quart, have caused a lot of frustration for fans in the past - this challenge on September 29, posed a particularly hard challenge for fans.

The five letter word answer for the Wordle challenge on Thursday, September 29, 2022, was 'scald'. This word infuriated fans who struggled to solve this five letter word challenge.
"Wordle 467 6/6 Almost didn't get it. Had to use a filler word to really narrow down what it could be because I couldn't think of a word," said one fan who solved the puzzle by the skin of their teeth.
"#Wordle467 This was a trickly one. If I didn't get it right I'd scald my 172nd consecutive win. Wordle 467 4/6," said another fan.

Scald meaning
Many players struggled with this challenge because they were simply unfamiliar with this term. The word is not particularly common and typically crops up when people are talking about medical injuries and burns. So what does the word scald mean?
The word scald is defined by the Cambridge dictionary as, "to burn the skin with boiling liquid or steam." It can also mean to clean a surface, for example, "to put something in boiling water or steam in order to make it completely clean."
The word is most commonly associated with a type of burn that comes from steam or hot water, to use it in a sentence you could say, "the steam from the kettle scalded my hand."
