It's the most slumberful time of the year

When Christmas rolls around, the first thing that I unpack is my cheery Christmas bedding. Tucking up in some tartan sheets or a whimsical winter scene is all part of the festive spirit — to help take some of the stress out of Christmas, I've found the cosiest options out there for you.

Many opt for rich holiday reds and deep greens, while others prefer fleecy snow whites and sparkling gold accents. Whatever you opt for, they should be a change from your normal bed sheets and more like your Christmas pyjamas.

The best Christmas bedding for bringing cosiness home this year

This edit offers budget sets, cosy cotton sets, textured fluffy sets and more. There are even some cosy throws and complementary pillows at the bottom of the page, if you want some help with classic Christmas decorations too.

These are the twelve best Christmas bedding sets on the market right now. Some of them are subtle, like Piglet In Bed's Berry Gingham Collection, and others are a little more obviously festive. I've always prioritised quality, maintenance, and, of course, Christmas style.

Christmas throws and pillows

If you want to make your bedroom or lounge a little more Christmassy, adding some festive throws and pillows can make a big difference. Almost all the brands in this list have their own, extended Christmas bedding collections that include lots of accessories, but here are my favourites.

FAQs

What material is best for winter bedding?

Cotton, especially flannel, is perfect for sleeping in over the winter. You can get thick sheets to keep you cosy, but cotton is also naturally breathable and moisture-wicking, which looks after your skin while you sleep.

Is Christmas bedding worth getting?

If you want to add a touch of Christmas to your bedroom, Christmas bedding makes for a great investment. It sounds like a small change to make, but the difference that it'll add to your room is surprisingly vast.

When can I put my Christmas bedding out?

I already have my Christmas bedding out, but that's because I'm a bit Christmas crazy. Lots of people wait until the end of November or the beginning of December. Just know, if you want to change it now, you aren't alone.

"The time to put Christmas bedding out will depend entirely on personal preference, with some people choosing to put it out as early as November and others waiting until December. If the bedding is not overly Christmas themed and is instead more generic winter bedding, this can be put out as soon as you start to feel cold," echoes Steve Larkin, interiors expert from Lark & Larks.

Who makes the best Christmas bedding?

All of the brands that I've featured above make good Christmas bedding. I'd normally always opt for cotton sheets, because they're gentle against your skin. However, I think it's okay to opt for cotton or polycotton when you're investing in festive sheets, since they'll be cheaper and lower maintenance than your other sheets.

Along with Christmas tablescaping trends and the best Christmas tree decorations, we're seeing a few popular styles for bedding this year.

Steve explains that there are three stand-out trends you'll want to keep an eye out for...

  • Traditional - As always, a more traditional festive pattern continues to be on trend. Think tartans, rich greens and plaid, it's similar to the Ralph Lauren Christmas trend that's recently taken the spotlight.
  • Winter Wonderland - "Winter themed bedding is trending as it can be used to create a winter wonderland look, using elements like white, blue, snowflakes and snowmen," explains Steve.
  • Whimsical - "As part of the current trend for nostalgic and whimsical Christmas decorations, bedding in similar designs is also popular. This includes patterns of animals in Santa hats, candy canes, gingerbread men and even Christmas cowboys," Steve continues.

These Christmas bedding sets are the ones that I would (and will be) buy for friends, family, and as gifts. If you haven't got any Christmas bedding yet, you're in for a real treat.
