Sophie Wessex becomes the first ever royal to do THIS - and fans can't stop praising her for it

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, has made royal history recently, as the first member of the royal family to ever visit the country of Lebanon.

Lebanon, situated in the Middle East, has never before been visited by the member of the monarchy, although last year Prince William also made history as the first royal to visit nearby Israel and the Palestinian territories.

But Prince Edward's wife has headed to the country for an important visit, visiting UK-backed charities working to end sexual and gender-based violence in Lebanon.

On the Royal Family Instagram account, fans were provided with a detailed explanation of Sophie's visit there, and the charity work being done.

The caption revealed that Sophie had visited a family being supported by the UN World Food Programme, before heading to the Awareness Foundation, to see how young people were working to building 'respect and understanding in their diverse communities'.

She also visited some essential women's empowerment initiatives, as part of her wider work on the topic.

It read, 'In the afternoon, The Countess thanked British Embassy staff based in Beirut for their service in the region and then joined a roundtable discussion in her commitment to champion the UK’s work on #WomenPeaceSecurity and the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative.

'HRH joined Syrian women and NGOs who shared their insights and discussed how to tackle the barriers to ensuring women’s voices are heard and promoting their vital role in decision-making.'

Sophie's fans were certainly impressed by her busy work, with many taking to the post to comment on how 'wonderful' and 'hard-working' she is.

One wrote, 'This is one hardworking Lady❤️👏👏', as another follower gushed, 'Sophie works so hard and always looks amazing 🙏 she needs more recognition 🙌🙌🙌🙌'.

A third also said, 'Good for her, the Countess is a class act💛', while a fourth commened, 'Excellent! Let's hear more about the wonderful Countess!'

Sophie's visit comes at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth office - and while it's likely she'll stay in the country for a few days, the palace hasn't confirmed how long the visit is yet.
