Why today is a big day for The Countess of Wessex

The Earl and Countess of Wessex's eldest daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, is set to collect her GCSE results today.

Like thousands of students up and down the country, Lady Louise Windsor, will find out the results of her GCSE's today.

She and her brother, James, Viscount Severn, 12, have been homeschooled by their mother, Sophie Countess of Wessex, since March - when lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic was imposed.

It will no doubt be a huge day in the Wessex household as Louise, 16, eagerly awaits her results after all GCSE exams were cancelled amid the pandemic.

While Louise's results have been described as a "private matter" by Buckingham Palace, her mother, Sophie, has previously opened up about her hope's for Louise's future.

Countess Sophie told The Sunday Times, "She’s working hard and will do A-levels. I hope she goes to university. I wouldn't force her, but if she wants to. She's quite clever."

Sophie and her husband Prince Edward decided not to use HRH titles for their children when they were born. The Countess told the newspaper: "We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely to have to work for a living. Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles. They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it's highly unlikely."

In fact, Lady Louise is so serious about her studies that she gave up carriage driving this year to focus on her studies.

Just like any other 16-year-old, Lady Louise’s main focus has been her exams and she therefore never planned to compete this year.

“Yeah, she wouldn’t have been able to compete this year because she would have been in the middle of exams but it’s a lovely thing to do,” Sophie explained. “To actually participate in the horse show you know, has been a really special thing for her to do and in fact, actually, the first time she participated was of course in the pageant, which she adored.”

The 16-year-old made her debut as a carriage driver at the Royal Windsor Horse Show back in 2017. But, her mother has revealed that even if the show had not been cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis, Louise would not have taken part this year.
