Meghan Markle's close friend has revealed how the royal icon helped a struggling American family when she was in the UK.

Meghan Markle made a sweet gesture for a struggling American family when she was in the UK, according to the royal icon's close friend.

Speaking at the Baby2Baby Gala in Los Angeles on November 12, Tyler Perry revealed how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had contributed during the baby formula shortage in the US last summer.

The 53-year-old actor revealed to the 800 guests present at Saturday's fundraiser that he had been unable to find formula in supermarkets after one of his employees had come to him looking for help for their child. He decided to turn to Harry and Meghan, who, despite being in London at the time, were reportedly more than happy to offer their assistance.

Perry even revealed that Meghan went to stores in England to search for formula, leaving the couple's temporary residence at Frogmore Cottage to make the charitable shopping trip.

It remains unknown when exactly this kind gesture took place, but it could have happened when the Sussexes were back in the UK for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June. The US suffered a severe shortage of infant formula last summer, with 70% of the baby food staple reported to be out-of-stock by May 2022.

Tyler Perry has shared a special bond with Harry and Meghan for years, having famously let the couple stay in his California mansion when they emigrated to North America in January 2020. The Sussexes moved into their own £14 million Santa Barbara mansion in Montecito a few months later, but have seemingly remained tight with the Don't Look Up star.

"I’m just so proud of where they are now. Because I’m gonna tell you something. Those two people love each other. I don’t care what anybody says. I’m seeing it up close," he told Sway Calloway on SiriusXM in September. "And you can’t fool me. I got the Holy Ghost. You can’t fool me. I know what’s real. They really genuinely love each other. So I’m just so happy to see where they are now."
