Prince William and Kate Middleton's dog's name has been revealed after it appeared in a photograph with Princess Charlotte on her 7th birthday.

Princess Charlotte’s birthday was celebrated on May 2, 2022 and the Royal Family marked this milestone with a brand new image of the young royal. The image was taken by the Duchess of Cambridge at their Norfolk home Amner Hall. It's no secret that photography is one of Kate Middleton's favorite hobbies, and featured in the image was also the Cambridges' young cocker spaniel.
Although the nearly two-year-old dog joined the family home quite some time ago, it was unknown until just recently what the royal couple had decided to name their beloved pooch.
It has now been revealed that the Cambridge family named their dog Orla. The name Orla is Irish in origin and it means 'golden princess,' a perfectly regal name for this royal canine.
The Cambridges' received the new pup from Catherine's brother James Middleton whose dog gave birth to a litter of six puppies. It was revealed in January 2021 that Kate Middleton and her family were 'besotted' with their new puppy which they received around the same time that their dog Lupo passed away in November 2020.
"The new puppy is adorable and the whole family are besotted," a friend told The Mail on Sunday in January 2021. "They were devastated when Lupo passed away, as any dog owner will understand, but got the new puppy before he died. It was hoped that a younger dog would give Lupo some company and give him a little more life and energy."
Although the photograph for Princess Charlotte's birthday marks Orla's first proper public appearance as a royal pooch, there have been a couple of occasions when Orla has managed to sneak her way in front of the lens.
In celebration of Kate and William's 10-year anniversary, Kensington Palace released a video of the Cambridge family at the beach. A small snippet shows Orla running around with the children on the beach.
It's clear that Orla is a key member of the Cambridge family and evidently has close companionship with the young Princess Charlotte who smiled brightly in the photo where she cuddled up to the cocker spaniel.
