Prince Harry's 'big moment' as he admits he's finally got Archie and Lilibet to embrace this British food
The Sussex children used to 'diss' their dad for loving this divisive snack, but now he's won them over to his side
Prince Harry’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, might be half-American and have lived in Montecito for most of their lives, but he’s making sure some British customs are passed down. Since their return to the UK this August, the Sussex children have now embraced one of their dad's favourite snacks - and it’s not for everyone.
Speaking to Hello! at the WellChild Awards in his role as Patron, Prince Harry was asked what some of the most British things he’s done with the family since they swapped California for the UK. As well as explaining that they’ve been on lots of walks around the idyllic countryside, he added, "Now the kids are eating Marmite on crumpets, which is a big moment for me."
"Please tell me that is a British thing, because it has always been in my life," he added.
The Duke of Sussex even revealed that his children weren't impressed when they first tried it - and still aren't fans of another British staple.
"They used to diss me for having Marmite in the house but now we are in the UK that’s kind of like water under the bridge, so it’s good," Harry shared. "I already tried beans on toast in California. That was years ago. It didn't go down very well at all."
Harry might be having more luck convincing them to try British snacks when they’re living back in England, but both Archie and Lilibet have shown strong links their heritage in the past. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2025, Meghan Markle revealed that, with certain words, Archie and Lilibet would surprise her with British pronunciations.
The Duchess was asked, "What's your favourite thing that you see in your kids that you go, 'Oh, that's their dad'?” and replied, "Oh, some of the words that they still say with a British accent. "So they'll say, 'Zebra,'" [pronounced like zeb-ra, compared to zeeb-ra, the typical American pronunciation]."
Meghan added, "They have these little moments where it comes out. They have very American accents, but they say words that are just like him, and I think it's adorable."
It's only been a few weeks since Prince Harry and Meghan moved with their two children back to the UK in what has been reported will be an "extended period" of time. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have been enrolled in British schools, while their parents will remain private individuals and non-working members of the Royal Family.
