The musical legend has taken to social media to defend the royal couple after they were criticised following their recent trip to Nice.
Over the last couple of weeks the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been blasted over reports that they have taken several trips by private jet, despite being strong advocates for the environment.
But now the iconic music star has spoken out in defence of the pair, who he explains need to ‘maintain a high level of much-needed protection’.
Alongside a sweet photo of the duke and duchess out on a meet and greet while on their royal tour to New Zealand last year, Sir Elton John took to his Instagram page to express his disappointment at the royal couple’s treatment.
‘I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,’ he wrote alongside the snap, in which he tagged the pair’s Sussex Royal Instagram account, the account of his husband David Furnish and his own account.

‘After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.’
Referring to the backlash about the couple’s dedication to the environment, the 72-year-old added: ‘To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™’.
