The thrifty TikTok skincare hack that will save you money on expensive moisturiser
Beauty fans are obsessed with this TikTok skincare hack—but would you give it a go?
There's a TikTok skincare hack that is guaranteed to save you some cash and beauty fans are already swearing by it.
Of all the skincare trends of 2022, slugging seems to be the new hack that TikTok users are obsessed with. This new trend encourages viewers to coat their faces with petroleum jelly before they go to sleep so that they can lock in the moisture on their skin.
One TikTok beauty guru explained, "Slugging is when you use a petroleum-based product to create a barrier between your skin and the outside world. Since petroleum molecules are too big for your skin to actually absorb them, it creates this barrier so that your skin stays more plump and moisturized."
She explained that she completes her normal skincare regime then uses a petroleum-based product to lock in the moisture.

Other TikToks have explained that you only need a 'pea-sized' amount of petroleum jelly in order to complete this hack.
One TikToker explained, "I take about a pea-sized amount and I pat it in all over my face after my PM (night time) routine." She then explains that all you need to do in the morning is wash off the product and within a few days you should be able to see the results.
As this product is inexpensive, this is certainly one of the easiest and cheapest hacks that beauty novices can use to save money on expensive night creams or moisturizers.

Fans are loving the hack and many have already sworn by its success. "I've been using Vaseline for my undereye after applying eye serum. it makes my skin plump and prevents fine lines," said one commenter.
"My mom's been slathering my face in Aquaphor since birth and I thank her every day," said another.
However, some commenters were adamant that it did not work for them. If you are a person who suffers from acne, or you have oily skin, this hack is not recommended. But if you have dry areas of your face and would appreciate locking in the moisture, this could work for you.
Petroleum Jelly, Vaseline | $5.99
Vaseline Original Petroleum Jelly 50ml, Pack of 2 for $5.99.
This is one of the thriftiest hacks on the app as it only requires one of the best skincare products, which you probably already own!
So you don't need to stress about purchasing the best face moisturizer, you just need some good old-fashioned Vaseline to try it out.
