A final solar eclipse in Sagittarius on December 4, brings in December’s astrology with a bang. Eclipses are supercharged new or full moons that oftentimes speed up timelines and bring about fated events.
Although the year is nearly out, there are still massive astrological events ready to shake things up. Before Venus in retrograde 2021 even kicks off, there's an eclipse that you need to know about—and here's why.
For the past 18 months, we’ve been experiencing eclipses in the zodiac signs of Gemini and Sagittarius. This means that the areas of our birth charts that hold Gemini and Sagittarius have been experiencing profound change and transformation since our first lunar eclipse in Sagittarius on June 5, 2020.
Think back to this date for themes, conversations, confrontations and shifts that may have taken place in your life. How have you experienced growth in the past 18 months?
What are solar and lunar eclipses?
Eclipses shift their cycle every 18 months and occur when the sun and moon are near the lunar nodes. Lunar nodes are two points in the sky where the moon's orbital path crosses the ecliptic, the Sun's yearly path on the celestial sphere.
In astrology, the North Node and South Node are known as the Nodes of Fate, and, in our birth chart, can speak to strengths and weaknesses we incarnated with and offer details about our life path and where we’re meant to head in this lifetime.
The last time we experienced the North Node in Gemini and the South Node in Sagittarius was from October 2001 to April 2003. Another way to pick up themes on your personal eclipse journey is to think back to this time frame and the lessons and events that took place in your life.
The final, upcoming solar eclipse in Sagittarius takes place at 12 degrees Sagittarius. People who have any planets between 9-15 degrees of Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo, or Pisces, are likely to feel this eclipse the strongest in their lives. All four of those zodiac signs are mutable signs, which means the eclipse will form intense astrology aspects or connections with these particular star signs, and activate energy within their birth charts.
What energy will the solar eclipse in Sagittarius bring?
So, what’s so special about the December 4 solar eclipse in Sagittarius? In order to gain a deeper understanding of the themes and energy of this specific lunation, we’ve got to look at the different conversations the planets are having in the sky.
As you may already know from your weekly horoscope, this eclipse is taking place in Sagittarius, and Sagittarius’ ruling planet is Jupiter—the planet of abundance, wisdom, growth, and opportunity. So it’s important to look at what Jupiter is up to during the eclipse to pick up on specific themes and energy.
During this eclipse, Jupiter will be in Aquarius, and is forming a tense aspect with Mars, the planet of anger, action, and will, which will be in the sign of Scorpio. This clash of planets serves as a standoff—both planets have different aims and are eager to assert their will and desires.
In general, this type of planetary contact can amplify repressed anger, increase our motivation and desire to take action. Which in turn can cause accidents and have us overextend ourselves. Jupiter desires progress and growth on a large scale and Mars desires a strategic plan and yearns to cut away the excess.
Emotions can be heightened during eclipses in general, but with this aspect present, it will be easier than ever to be emotionally triggered. Self-care, prioritizing rest, and setting boundaries will be paramount. Perhaps it's a good time to try meditation or yoga nidra to calm the mind, body, and soul.

What can we expect from Gemini-Sagittarius eclipses?
On a global scale, the Gemini-Sagittarius eclipse axis tends to bring up themes related to communication, travel, spirituality, our belief systems, politics, the art of listening vs. speaking, and more.
For example, we’ve experienced radical shifts in our travel policies throughout 2020 to 2021 and had much to process globally around some of our longstanding, collective ideologies. But we are at the tail end of this eclipse journey and about to embark on a new eclipse series in the signs of Taurus and Scorpio.
What can we expect from Taurus-Scorpio eclipses?
On November 19, 2021, we experienced a lunar eclipse, the first lunar eclipse in Taurus, kicking off a new set of eclipses that will take us through October 2023. This shift brings a drastic change to our eclipse story, as the North Node, a point of intake, moves through Taurus, and the South Node, a point of release, moves through Scorpio.
This axis is complex and profound—in astrology, Taurus is life-giving and representative of nature while Scorpio can represent darker themes of death and transformation.
In order to see how this upcoming eclipse series will play out for you personally, locate the houses in your chart that have Taurus and Scorpio. It’s also important to note if you have planets or your rising sign in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius. The fixed signs will experience the most intense transformation from these eclipses over the next year and a half.
With this eclipse series, we can expect dramatic shifts and conversations around climate change, environmental conservation, worker’s rights, our resources, and financial systems (Taurus).
Some of Scorpio’s themes may bring up conversations around reproductive rights, leaking of secret information, power struggles on a global scale, some of the taboo and darker sides of humanity, as well as long-term finances and investments. These powerful lunations are sure to leave their mark and pave the way for a collective shift in these areas of our lives.
