If you're a beauty fan, you may have noticed Maybelline Sky High Mascara reviews all over social media. It’s hard to remember a mascara exploding onto the scene quite like Sky High. This lengthening formula has taken the internet by storm, but if you’re yet to give it a whirl, our comprehensive Maybelline Sky High Mascara review will help you decide if it’s worthy of your spend.
Reported to be one of the best mascara launches of recent years, the affordable makeup buy first went viral on TikTok and at the time of writing, videos using the Maybelline Sky High Mascara hashtag have built up more than 51 million views on the app. As per data compiled by beauty e-tailer Lookfantastic at the start of the year, it’s also now the most-searched-for Maybelline mascara on Google—racking up more than 300,000 more monthly searches than those for classic Maybelline mascaras like Lash Sensational, and newbie Colossal Curl Bounce.
We’ve definitely been won over by Sky High's lengthening prowess. But if you're yet to try it yourself, we’ve done a deep-dive Maybelline Sky High Mascara review to help you decide if it’s the right mascara for you.
Maybelline Sky High Mascara review, by our beauty experts
Packaging design
First things first, let's start with the packaging: while many of Maybelline’s mascaras are loud and kind of funky in design, Sky High is a bit more understated while still being very attractive. The packaging is a classic cylindrical design in a pleasing dusky pink shade, while the embossed font on the product is a clear nod to the New York City skyline that inspired the mascara itself.
As for the brush head, it’s long and fairly thin with a tapered shape. Plus it's flexible, so it can grab on to each and every one of your lashes while you apply, which certainly contributes to this being one of the best lengthening mascaras in the Maybelline catalog. It also features multiple reservoirs to hold more formula, meaning you don’t have to keep dipping into the tube to re-coat the wand.
What's in the formula?
Described as a “washable” formula, Maybelline Sky High Mascara is infused with bamboo extracts to help nourish your natural lashes, similar to those you might find in the best eyelash grower serums. it also contains lengthening fibers for an extra punch in that department. The formula also promises to be flake and smudge-free and not at all heavy on your lashes—it definitely doesn't feel claggy or too thick when you apply, nor does it clump together while you build length and volume.
For swimmers or watery-eyed mascara wearers, there's also a waterproof version available with the same price tag as the original. Naturally, that formulation is a little bit more stubborn, but as long as you learn how to remove waterproof mascara you'll be fine.
Ease of application
This was one of the simplest areas of our Maybelline Sky High Mascara review to judge, In short, it's incredibly easy to apply this mascara and achieve those famous long lash results. Because there’s no unusual brush head to get used to or any expert technique required for application, Sky High really is a great mascara for beginners. The narrow, tapered brush is easy to wiggle right into the root of your lashes to create the ultimate length and lift. What’s more, it’s flexible and really gets into the inner corners to catch any shorter lashes. Every lash is separated and stretched out to the max making this one of the best mascaras for short lashes we've tried.
Maybelline Sky High Mascara results
If you haven’t watched seemingly endless Maybelline Sky High Mascara reviews on TikTok with users being visibly shocked by the results, prepare to be impressed. This visibly lengthens and darkens even short and very light eyelashes, so could offer an alternative to eyelash tinting and even the best false eyelashes for those who like a dramatic look. For the best results it’s a good idea to apply one coat, wait a couple of moments for it to dry down, and then go in with a second coat to really build up the formula and get those wow-inducing results.
It's also important to note that Sky High also has great staying power, on testing it didn't flake off down my cheeks or print above my lids throughout the day (I have oily skin so I often apply a little face powder below my brows to avoid this). Because of this, you do have to make a little more effort with removal, so we recommend using one of the best cleansing oils or balms to take it off.
Maybelline Sky High Mascara: W&H verdict
Overall it's clear that Maybelline Sky High Mascara is a winning makeup buy. On a personal note, this is the mascara that I’ve used the most over the past 12 months and it now has a permanent home in my make-up bag, as I've repurchased it several times.
All in all, it's already cemented itself as one of the best Maybelline mascaras on the market and an excellent buy if length and volume are your top priorities. So if you like your everyday mascara to be affordable without compromising on results, then I'd seriously recommend giving it a go, and am confident anyone would love it just as much as I do!
