Anne Hathaway's favourite beauty products are a closely guarded secret, not least because she actually likes making quite a few of them herself using either a base of coconut oil or coco butter.

And yet the Academy Award-winning actress always manages to look fresh-faced - something that's not easy when juggling the demands of a movie actress with being a busy mom to two young boys.

After recent images of Hathaway emerged with the cutest 'French Girl' bangs our curiosity reached a whole other level. Wonder no more, it seems in this case homespun isn't the answer, nor is the best eye cream, but a certain gold eye mask is.

In a recent Interview with Allure, Hathaway admitted that her last Amazon purchase was "Chantecaille gold eye masks. So expensive but truly, deeply brilliant," she told the title.

As to what makes them so brilliant? Chantecaille's Gold Energizing Eye Recovery Mask boasts actual 24ct gold, a potent antioxidant, which goes some way to explaining the hefty price tag. It's also infused with botanical extracts such as plankton to reduce fine lines; peptides, provitamin B5 and hyaluronic acid to ramp up moisture levels and soothing aromatic rosewater.

As Instagrammable as comma-shaped eye masks are, they also drip feed the delicate, thin skin under the eyes with lightweight but potent serums. This is crucial in the war against crow's feet as the skin here also contains fewer oil glands, making it more susceptible to fine lines and dark circles. The occlusive nature of an eye mask means those ingredients are locked into the skin for a more wide awake look after just 20 minutes.

As to whether you'd rather have gold infused into your skin or worn on your finger, we'll let you decide.
