Prince Harry has revealed that he realized Meghan Markle was his 'soulmate' three years before their royal wedding during a 'fantastic' trip to Africa together.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Monday, the Duke of Sussex gushed about his fond memories of the continent and why it holds a special place in his heart to this day. The powerful keynote speech, which also condemned the reversal of Roe V Wade, was delivered to a small audience at the iconic venue in honor of Nelson Mandela Day. It comes just a few days after Prince Harry admitted he's 'thriving' in a short film for the mental health app, BetterUp.
After praising the legacy of the former president of South Africa, Harry discussed how his emotional relationship with Africa has blossomed since his first visit at the age of 13. The 37-year-old explained that trips to the continent have helped him to process the death of his late mother, Princess Diana, who was widely known for pioneering and supporting various humanitarian projects in Africa.
"For most of my life, it has been my lifeline, a place where I have found peace and healing time and time again," he revealed in the poignant address.
"It’s where I felt closest to my mother and sought solace after she died."
The Duke also reflected on a special image of Princess Diana and Mandela meeting in Cape Town in 1997, taken shortly before she died.

"The photo was presented to me by the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, whose friendship and inspiration were their own treasured gift.
"When I first looked at the photo, straight away what jumped out was the joy on my mother's face, the playfulness, cheekiness, even.
"The pure delight to be in communion with another soul so committed to serving humanity."
Harry also said that Africa is the place "where I knew I had found a soulmate in my wife." It's likely he's referring to the romantic vacation he and Meghan shared in Botswana together back in the summer of 2016.
“I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana. We camped out with each other under the stars. She came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic,” Harry told the BBC in the couple's first-ever interview. “So then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to know each other.”
