Prince Charles has commended Prince Harry's environmental activism in a recent essay, sparking renewed hope that the estranged father and son duo could be on route to reconciliation.

The Prince of Wales has acknowledged his youngest son's contribution to climate activism in a US magazine, amid ongoing rumors that the pair have barely spoken for months.

In an essay published in Newsweek on Tuesday, the 73-year-old wrote that "Harry has passionately highlighted the impact of climate change, especially in relation to Africa, and committed his charity to being net-zero."

Prince Charles went on to pay tribute to Prince William, who, like Harry, has also inherited his father's interest in green issues. Alongside his wife, Kate Middleton, the Duke of Cambridge has spent the last few years vigorously campaigning to raise awareness about the climate crisis—even founding the world’s biggest annual environmental award in 2020.

"Most recently, my elder son, William, launched the prestigious Earthshot Prize to incentivize change and help repair our planet over the next ten years by identifying and investing in the technologies that can make a difference," Charles added.

While the Prince of Wales' shoutout to his eldest will come as little surprise to hardcore royal fans, his mention of Harry is likely to raise a few eyebrows. The two heirs have been at loggerheads with each other for over a year, with the Duke of Sussex's shocking withdrawal as a senior royal in January 2020 reportedly causing a serious rift within the family.

Prince Harry infamously emigrated to California with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their child, Archie, where he planned to continue serving the Crown whilst pursuing his own independent projects. He has gone on to deliver some hefty criticism of the Royal Family, including allegations of racism against Buckingham Palace, accusations that his security was cut off and 'generational trauma'.

Now living 5,000 miles away from Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla's London residence of Clarence House, Prince Harry hasn't exactly had ample opportunities to reconcile with his dad. The 37-year-old has returned to Britain on two separate occasions since his high-profile departure, flying back for Prince Philip's funeral in April 2021 and again for Princess Diana's statue unveiling the following July. However, he did not see Prince Charles on his latter visit, sparking further speculation that little effort was made by either party to heal the alleged feud.
