Following the adorable news this morning that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their first child together, the world has been awash with happy messages of congratulations for the couple.
But it’s likely that not many are more delighted by the exciting announcement than the couple’s respective families.
And it seems that Doria Ragland, Meghan Markle’s mother, is particularly pleased, given that the new baby will be her very first grandchild – as Meghan is her only daughter.
In fact, Doria issued a very sweet statement via Kensington Palace this morning, revealing that she was “very happy at this lovely news and is looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild”. How lovely!
It’s well known that Doria is very close to her daughter, and now, her new son-in-law Harry. And it’s likely that she has known about the couple’s happy news for some time already.
In fact, just a few weeks ago, rumours flew that 62-year-old Doria had been spotted taking baby-care classes in her home of Los Angeles – sparking the first murmurs that Meghan may be pregnant.
Reportedly, her training involved skills such as first aid, for a baby. The rumours come amid reports that Doria is preparing to move to England to be nearer Harry and Meghan – or at least let out a property nearby them for frequent visits from across the pond.
It’s thought that the decision was made as Meghan has said she does not want to hire a nanny – unlike her sister and brother-in-law, William and Catherine, who have employed nanny Maria Borrallo since Prince George was born.
But while Doria is understandably delighted by the news of her daughter’s pregnancy, Kensington Palace actually declined to comment on whether or not her father, Thomas Markle, had been told.
The pair have famously suffered a difficult relationship since she announced her engagement to Prince Harry – with him pulling out of their May 19th wedding at the last minute.
Meghan and Harry are due to welcome their first baby in Spring 2019 – meaning Meghan is likely around 12 weeks pregnant.
