Unboxing The White Company Faux Fur Heated Throw
This is the most beautiful packaging I’ve ever had for an electric blanket or heated throw. The White Company gift box just needs a bow around it and you could put it under the tree - it really is that lovely.
Inside is a cloth storage bag for the heated throw with a thick drawstring. I wouldn’t plan on packing this away often, but if I was to roll it up and store it away, I’d be happy to have it in the bag and box.
Alongside that, there’s an instruction manual explaining that the throw is washing machine safe, whilst also explaining the different heat settings and controls on the remote. We’ll get into that in the formal section though.
What is The White Company Faux Fur Heated Throw like to use?
The first thing you notice about The White Company’s Faux Fur Heated Throw is its sheer, indulgent softness. If luxury could be bottled, this is what it would feel like. Unlike most heated throws, its plush faux fur is paired with a velvety faux-suede underside, both deliciously thick and weighted just enough to cocoon you in instant warmth.
The faux fur itself is among the most sumptuous I’ve ever tested: rich, dense, and irresistibly touchable. If you’ve ever had a pet with beautifully soft, thick fur, you’ll know the feeling; your fingers practically disappear as you run your hand through it. It’s comfort on an entirely different level.
You can choose to have either the faux fur or the velvet-like suede against your skin, which adds a lovely touch of versatility, although I suspect most people will gravitate toward the ultra-soft suede side.
The remote control is delightfully simple, offering six heat settings and a timer of up to nine hours, so you can truly settle in. And while the throw already feels warm and comforting even before it’s switched on, the warmth really begins once the heat kicks in.
It starts gently, almost unnoticeably, and then within a few minutes you can feel it blooming around you. Give it another moment or two and you’re enveloped in a deeply cosy, toasty cocoon that makes it almost impossible to get up again.
As someone who’s naturally cold, I almost never overheat, so my family were genuinely stunned when I announced the room was too warm and actually switched the blanket off. A first, truly.
It didn’t take long for this heated throw to become prime real estate in our house, either. We draped it over a deep chair in the lounge, and without fail, someone would end up curled beneath it at all hours of the day. My personal favourite setting was a comfortable mid-heat for film nights, but after coming in from the cold with fingers numb and circulation questionable, I had no hesitation cranking it all the way up. And to its credit, within seconds I was completely, blissfully toasty.
Cleaning and storage
In spite of testing the lighter colourway and putting this under pretty intense use, I didn’t notice any marks or stains on it. However, the good news is that this is washing machine friendly, so you can unplug the wire and put the blanket in the main tumbler of your machine. As a precaution, I would recommend using a gentle laundry detergent and a colder temperature to look after the fabric as best as you can, especially the faux fur fibres.
On other faux furs, I’ve found that the fibres can clump together after cleaning. If yours does this, using a dense brush and lightly running it over the fibres should revive it nicely. We have more advice on how to clean an electric blanket at home if you need help.
How does The White Company Faux Fur Heated Throw compare?
As far as heated throws go, this is the most luxurious. If you want elegant colours, faux fur, and soothing weight, you can’t go wrong. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the perfect one for you though.
If you like the sound of faux fur, but you want a more forgiving colourway, the Morphy Richards EverCosy Heated Throw is a brilliant choice. It has a similar velvet side and faux fur side as well as a range of light and intense heat options. The colours offered by Morphy are much richer and the blanket is a lot bigger, so it’s really a matter of personal preference.
If faux fur sounds like a lot of hard work and maintenance that you don’t want to invest in, the Dreams Fleece Heated Throw is the one that I’ve always relied on to snuggle under. It’s been whole year and this has kept me warm post-cold water swimming and the heating breaking over Christmas, so it’s definitely one to rely on.
