Could hyaluronic acid be the secret ingredient for healthier hair?
You may be using it on your skin already...
It seems an unlikely secret ingredient could be the answer to healthy, shiny hair… and that is hyaluronic acid.
If you've never heard of it, you’re not alone. But it is worth having on your radar for its hydrating and moisture-boosting properties. Hyaluronic acid is found in the tissue of the dermal layer in the scalp and is responsible for keeping cells hydrated and maintaining moisture. This prevents dryness and premature hair loss occurring.
However, as we age, less is produced causing a decline in the quality and quantity of our hair. Hair experts at Live True London explain this in a little more detail, saying, “Hyaluronic acid has been gaining popularity in skincare and beauty. This miracle ingredient is great for both your scalp and hair.As you age, the natural levels of hyaluronic acid begin to decrease causing your scalp to become dryer, affecting how your hair follicles function. Using a product containing hyaluronic acid on your scalp can help to keep your scalp moisturised allowing your hair follicles to function better and for your hair to grow healthier.”

It’s particularly great for people with dry and damaged hair, as it helps smooth and protect healthy hair growth. Due to this reduction as we get older, it's therefore important to supplement our hair with products containing this all-important substance.
How could hyaluronic acid help hydrate our hair?
You may be familiar with this clever molecule in regards to skincare routines, as it’s often found in serums and creams. This is because it brings moisture to the surface of the skin - and the same goes for hair.
Neil Maclean, founder of Neil Maclean Hair Studio, says, “Similarly to when it’s used in skincare, hyaluronic acid maximises moisture levels and is key for glossy, healthy locks. It also nourishes the scalp to reduce dryness and flakes, creating a healthy environment for stronger, frizz-free hair.”
