They may have their differences, but it looks like Meghan Markle still holds a special place in the heart of Prince Charles.
The Duchess of Sussex's relationship with her British in-laws has been widely covered since she married Prince Harry in May 2018, especially in the wake of the couple's high-profile withdrawal as senior royals two years ago. It's understood that Meghan, 40, was initially 'adored' by the Prince of Wales—so much so that he even had a secret nickname for her.
This friendly rapport fizzled out, however, following the Duke and Duchess' controversial move to the US in January 2020 and their subsequent allegations of racism against Buckingham Palace.
Prince Harry revealed in the couple's explosive interview with Oprah in March 2021 that his father was no longer returning his calls, just two months before he blamed Charles for passing down 'genetic pain and suffering'. These comments reportedly only inflamed the rift between the Sussexes and the British monarchy, leaving the stateside duo's future in the Royal Family uncertain.
However, it looks like Prince Charles hasn't lost all hope for a reconciliation with Harry and Meghan.

The Prince of Wales offered to escort Meghan to the altar after her own father, Thomas Markle, was unable to make the event.
In the 2018 BBC documentary, Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, Prince Harry recalled the moment he approached his dad on the matter.
“I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs and I’m here to support you’," he said. “For him, that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he’s our father so of course, he’s going to be there for us.”
