Prince Charles reportedly felt left "out in the cold" when Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge decided their countryside home should be in Norfolk, a royal expert has claimed.

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla are understood to be very close to their Cambridge grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Recent reports have also suggested that the couple’s daughter-in-law Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge helped to bring the Prince of Wales and his son Prince William closer together. It’s now thought that in recent years father and son are closer than ever.

However, it seems that despite their family closeness, it's been suggested that there was one decision that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made that potentially meant Prince Charles felt a little left out.

Speaking on the new Channel 5 documentary, When the Middletons Met the Monarchy, royal expert Jennie Bond said: "There is a little tension sometimes about who gets to see the grandkids most.”

She revealed that: "Catherine will always turn to Carole for help, advice, guidance and just get togethers with the kids possibly before she would get together with Camilla and Charles."

Fellow royal expert Tom Quinn then reportedly added: "He was shocked and a little saddened that William and Kate decided that their country house should be in Norfolk, a very long way from Highgrove in Gloucestershire.”

"It sort of left him slightly out in the cold," Mr. Quinn explained.

What is Prince William and Duchess Catherine’s countryside home?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are currently understood to be at their countryside home, Anmer Hall, on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Gifted to them by Prince William’s grandmother, the Queen, the royal couple usually split their time between Anmer Hall and their Kensington Palace residence.

The current UK lockdown restrictions mean that schools, including Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s school, Thomas’s Battersea, are closed and it's thought that the family has remained at Anmer Hall after spending Christmas there. Whilst Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla are believed to be at their Gloucestershire home, Highgrove House, many miles away.

The current restrictions are not set to lift until at least mid-February, meaning that the Duke and Duchess’ young children will likely have gone quite some time without seeing Prince Charles or Duchess Camilla.

We can’t wait for the family to be reunited soon!
