Prince Charles has an exciting new role—and Prince William and Kate’s wedding prepared him for it
The Prince of Wales has an exciting new patronage that ties into his love of classical music
It has been announced that Prince Charles has secured a new patronage as the patron of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
• The Prince of Wales has been honored with a new patronage
• Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding may have helped the royal prepare for the new royal patronage

Prince Charles has been honored by becoming a patron of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, ahead of its 75th Anniversary.
This patronage is perfect for the Prince because he has always had a passion for classical music. Prince Charles has even put his musical knowledge to good use to help other members of the Royal family. When his eldest son, Prince William, married Kate Middleton, the Prince of Wales stepped up to assist the Royal couple in curating an appropriate playlist for the event.
Talking to Alan Titchmarsh on Classic FM, Prince Charles revealed a well-kept secret about Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding day. That secret turned out to be that he himself helped his son find suitable music for his royal wedding in 2011.

The Prince revealed, “I love trying to organize some interesting, I hope, pieces of music for certain occasions… particularly for weddings if people want," he said. “I know my eldest son was quite understanding and was perfectly happy for me to suggest a few pieces for their wedding. I hope that gave some people pleasure, but it’s rather fun having orchestras in for great occasions like that, and why not suggest a few pieces occasionally? Anyway... I do enjoy it."
The music suggestions must have worked out because the 29th April 2021 marked William and Kate's anniversary after ten years of marriage.
James Williams, the managing director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra revealed that they were extremely excited to have the Prince of Wales as their new patron. He said, “At the RPO, we have been hard at work for some months, shaping a bold strategy for our concert, community engagement, inclusion and education programmes to enrich communities when it matters most.”
The managing director also revealed that he hoped that this new patronage would help the arts industry in a “post-Covid world”. He said, "We aim to help people and businesses to rebuild after the long, dark months of lockdown. With the announcement of the Prince of Wales as our patron and the appointment of Vasily Petrenko as our new music director, the RPO is well placed to lead the resurgence and spread the joy of orchestral music in a post-Covid world."
