Fashion fans around the world shed tears last year when the Met Gala announced its cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, you couldn't witness the best dresses and hairstyles of the year, but this year you can breathe a sigh of relief because the Met Gala is back and ready to take on 2021.
As the U.S. ramps up its vaccine rollout, planning for the Met Gala is already in production. Most details have yet to be announced, but as you eagerly wait for your favorite stars to make their grand appearance, here are some details to hold you over until then.
When is the 2021 Met Gala happening?
We can expect Hollywood's brightest stars to step foot on the pink carpet on September 13, according to Page Six. Traditionally, the Met Gala takes place on the first Monday of May, but it was reportedly pushed back in the hopes that the world will be safer by then based on the vaccine rollout. It's also not going to fall on the first Monday in September because Labor Day is on the same day, and the holiday would interfere with the event.
What is this years theme going to be?
Since the event is still five months out, there has been no official announcement on what the theme is yet. Based on the past themes, though, we can only expect that whatever they end up choosing will be fabulous.
Past themes have included 2019's Camp: Notes on Fashion, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination from 2018, and 2017's Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.
Who will be hosting?
Right now, poet Amanda Gorman who performed at Joe Biden's inauguration is rumored to be the host for the Met-Bash along with the chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Tom Ford, according to Page Six. Fashion icon Anna Wintour will also join as a host.
