Prince William has let slip a sweet detail about his romantic proposal to Duchess Catherine. The Duke and Duchess got engaged back in 2010.

At the time of their engagement the pair were quite private, revealing few details and not letting fans know whether the Duke actually got down on one knee to ask the important question.

"We had been talking about marriage for a while so it wasn't a massively big surprise,” Prince William told royal writer Tom Bradby at the time. “I took her up somewhere nice in Kenya and I proposed."

"It was very romantic,” Kate added. “There's a true romantic in there."

But now the Prince has spoken further about the sweet moment, confirming that he did in fact get down on his knee to pop the question.

"The African continent holds a very special place in my heart,” the Duke said in his speech earlier this week. “It is the place my father took my brother and me shortly after our mother died”.

He then went on to speak about the proposal, saying, "And when deciding where best to propose to Catherine, I could think of no more fitting place than Kenya to get down on one knee."

Royal expert Katie Nicholl has previously revealed that the Duke booked a log cabin for the pair to stay in and when they returned after a day of fishing he took Duchess Catherine out onto the veranda to pop the question.

How sweet!
