Prince Harry takes a break from paternity leave for special Invictus Games announcement

Prince Harry put a short pause on his paternity leave to share news about the Invictus Games.

• The Duke of Sussex started the Invictus Games back in 2014 and has attended each one ever since.
• Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Invictus Games were postponed, but Prince Harry gave a new update regarding the annual games on social media.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are taking some family time after they announced the birth of their daughter. Charity work has become an integral part of the couple's lives with the two taking advantage of big moments in their lives to update the public on their latest charity work. So, it comes as no surprise that the Duke of Sussex interrupted his paternity leave to update us all on the Invictus Games.

In a video posted by the official Invictus Games Twitter account, Prince Harry announced that the Invictus Games is headed to Germany in 2023.

"It's time to spread the news," he begins. "Something big is coming to Germany."

His announcement was followed by a montage of athletes training across Düsseldorf, Germany, in preparation for the future games.

"The Invictus Games are coming to Germany. And today, Harry, Duke of Sussex and German Minister of Defence reveal when the international sport event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women will take place," the caption of the tweet read.

When will the 2023 Invictus Games take place?

According to the tweet, we can expect the games to occur from September 9 to September 16, 2023. Judging from the video too, it seems as though Prince Harry is already working closely with German authorities to prepare for the future sporting event. 

Each year the games are hosted in a different location with the 2021 games expected to be hosted in The Netherlands. In the past, the Invictus Games were also held in the US, Australia, and Canada.

How did the Invictus Games start?

Prince Harry attended the 2013 Warrior Games, which is a competition that the US holds for wounded servicemen organized by the U.S. Department of Defense. It was in those moments that he saw "how the power of sport can help physically, psychologically and socially those suffering from injuries and illness," according to the Invictus Games website. 

Using the Warrior Games as inspiration, the Duke formed the Invictus Games was then formed and has since helped inspire and motivate people around the world.
