It was the news the world had been waiting for since their May 19th wedding, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle yesterday announced that they are expecting their first child.
But of course, none are more excited than the Duke and Duchess themselves – a fact that Meghan was delighted to share with fans in Australia yesterday.
During the first day of their 16-day tour Down Under, the Duchess greeted crowds with a beaming smile, and couldn’t hide how happy she was to be expecting with her new husband.
On the day, Harry introduced Meghan to perhaps his biggest fan – 98-year-old Daphne, outside of the Sydney Opera House.
And the royal super-fan was herself delighted to congratulate the couple on their happy news that morning, saying, “It’s so wonderful the two of you.”
Meghan clearly couldn’t agree more, telling Daphne, “’What an exciting time. I’ve been so happy. “
And before departing, she told Daphne that she hoped to see her again with her new baby in tow. She confessed, “Hopefully the next time we see you we will have our little one with us.” Aww!
Later on in the day, Meghan and Harry also met with Aussie TV personality Eddie Woo, who has three of his own children, who are five, seven and 10.
He confessed to the royal couple that his kids require a lot of energy – but it seems the pair are more than up for the challenge, with Meghan admitting, “We’re ready! We’re excited to join the club”.
She also cooed over an adorable newborn at an afternoon reception, clearly looking forward to her own bundle of joy.
Both the Duke and Duchess have been open about their desire to start a family one day – even before meeting one another.
Just a month before meeting Prince Harry, Meghan confessed in her old lifestyle blog, The Tig, that she ‘couldn’t wait’ to have children. She wrote, ‘Other bucket-list items. I want to travel more and I can’t wait to start a family, but in due time.” Well, it seems like she’s certainly ticking those off the list!
And, during a 2012 interview with ABC, Harry admitted, “I’ve longed for kids since I was very, very young. I’m waiting to find the right person. Someone who is willing to take on the job.”
