Duchess Camilla’s nickname from her step-grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis is a wonderfully unique choice.
- The Duchess of Cornwall is understood to have revealed the adorable moniker back in 2016 at the Royal Variety Performance.
- This unusual nickname is a departure from royal tradition but it has a lovely ring to it.
- This royal news comes as Duchess Camilla and the Queen's shared passion has fans wondering if a new addition is on the way.
If there’s one thing the extended Royal Family love it’s an adorable nickname, from the Queen’s childhood pet-name Lilibet that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose for their daughter, to Princess Eugenie’s secret nickname for Princess Beatrice. But when it comes to Royal Family nicknames there’s one that really stands out for it’s regal nature—and it was chosen by some of the youngest family members!
Three of the Queen’s great-grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are said to have a very special nickname for the Duchess of Cornwall. The children’s step-grandmother reportedly revealed this herself back in 2016 during an appearance at the Royal Variety Performance.
According to The Sun, when meeting pop sensation Lady Gaga, who also recently starred in the highly-anticipated House of Gucci movie, Duchess Camilla declared, “My grandchildren call me Gaga”.
This is made all the more adorable if you consider that Lady Gaga herself has revealed her stage name was inspired by the song ‘Radio Ga Ga’ by Queen. It seems that even when it comes to nicknames, grandmother-of-eight Duchess Camilla has some form of royal connection!
But whilst the Cambridge kids’ supposedly refer to the Duchess of Cornwall with this rather unusual nickname, they do seem to follow tradition when it comes to their grandfather. Kate Middleton’s nickname for Prince Charles—Grandpa—is similar to her children’s choice, which is reportedly ‘Grandpa Wales’.
As reported by the Daily Mail, this sweet nickname is believed to be an echo of the Queen’s own name for her grandfather, King George V, which was ‘Grandpa England’ and it reflects the Prince of Wales’ most prominent title. Meanwhile, last March for the UK’s Mother’s Day Kate Middleton revealed the kids’ heartbreaking tribute to Princess Diana.

But for those experiencing bereavement, today may be particularly challenging. Each year on Mother’s Day, George, Charlotte and Louis make cards remembering their Granny, Diana, for William.Whatever your circumstances, we are thinking of you this Mother’s Day 💐 (2/2)March 14, 2021
In a moving Mother’s Day post, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge gave fans a rare insight into how George, Charlotte and Louis remember their late grandmother who tragically died before they were born. Revealing that each year that they write cards, the proud parents shared pictures of their little ones’ efforts, all addressed to ‘Granny Diana’.
When Mother's Day arrives in the UK on March 27 this year, there'll no doubt be many fans waiting for a similarly heartfelt post in honor of their beloved grandmother.
