Zara's great, but Massimo Dutti's autumn drop is full of quietly luxurious high-street gems

Massimo Dutti is reinventing luxury on the high street. These are the autumn styles to shop now

Zara's big sister, Massimo Dutti, has been quietly upping its luxury credentials. Delivering a completely different prospect to the high street, the Spanish retailer is packed with grown-up, dynamic silhouettes, wardrobe staples, and standout styles that will easily become future classics.

Massimo Dutti has always offered polish, but the latest autumn/winter range is a vast selection of cosy knits, sleek leathers and beautifully tailored separates that will take you from AM to PM.

In a fairly muted palette, with pops of red and orange for good measure, it's a very sophisticated delivery that definitely looks and feels designer. The sharp, editorially led imagery is coupled with multiple photographs per garment, making online shopping easier, and shows that the details are important to both brand and consumer. To save you from scrolling for hours (it really is an enormous collection categorised by limited edition and main lines), I have selected the bits worth adding to your autumn outfit ideas.

Luxury always comes with a price tag, and I was really impressed to see the quality of fabrics used throughout the collections. Wool, cashmere, silk and leather aren't specials or after thoughts, they're woven throughout, delivering a great feel and breathability.

While trends are clearly important to the retailer, everything felt timeless too, like you could wear it now for style points, but equally pull it our again next autumn and feel just as current. The coats were a particular highlight, especially a hooded trench coat - style and practicality - what's not to love.

A leather fan, I also think it's great to see those autumn/winter investment pieces back on the map. Leather coats, skirts and trousers are a plenty here, alongside affordable leather handbags - that are importantly, devoid of heavy branding, which only add to their fashion currency. With a largely neutral palette, it's clear that Massimo Dutti are after consumers who care about long term investment and style.
