Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew could remarry – thanks to a legal loophole

There have been calls from fans for Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew to remarry for a long time since the pair divorced back in 1996.

It’s well known that the couple still enjoy a close friendship, regularly joining one another at important events, and, of course, coming together to support their daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.

And thanks to the birth of the new royal baby, Prince Louis, the couple could well get the chance to re-marry – if they ever wanted to do so.

When Prince Louis was born to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on 23rd April, he became the fifth-in-line to the throne, after Prince Charles, Prince William, and siblings George and Charlotte.

Prince Harry was also pushed down to sixth-in-line to the crown, ahead of his wedding to Meghan Markle on 19th May.

But significantly, Prince Andrew, the Queen’s second eldest child, was moved down in the line of succession, to seventh place. It’s a significant development, as it means that the royal can now get married, without the permission of the Queen.

Due to the Royal Marriages Act of 1772, the first six people in the line of succession to the throne must receive the monarch’s consent before marrying. The development means that now, Prince Andrew could marry whomever he likes – whether that be Sarah, who famously suffered a difficult relationship with the royal family, or someone else.

Whether a remarriage between the pair is on the cards or not, it’s clear that fans of the royal duo would love to see the pair back together. They  regularly comment on Sarah’s social media posts, questioning whether a reunion is possible between the two parents.

The Duke and Duchess of York have also been open in confessing their continued admiration for one another, with Sarah regularly posting sweet tributes to her ex-husband.

Just recently, Sarah posted a photo of the Duke, congratulating him on become an Honourary Fellow at Cambridge University.

On her Instagram, she shared the picture, alongside the caption, ‘Congratulations to @hrhthedukeofyork who was made an Honorary Fellow of @hugheshallcam @cambridgeuniversity and had the opportunity to meet students #education #cambridgeuniversity’.

She went on to share another picture of Prince Andrew, after he had opened a new centre at the University.

On the photos,  her followers were quick to share how keen they were for Andrew and Sarah to reunite, and to praise the pair’s long and enduring friendship.

One fan wrote, ‘You and Andrew are one of the best Royal love stories … you are soul mates who deserve your happily ever after !!! I would love to see you two marry again ❤❤’.

While another agreed, ‘Two people who really belong together❤ Dear Sarah we are all rooting for you!’. A third fan also wrote, ‘I seems your relationship is stronger now then it has been for years which is fantastic especially for your two girls 🙂 I could see you both living happily ever after again xx’.

Of course however, the pair have not publically stated that they have any intention to reunite. And it seems for now, they’re happy continuing on with their strong, supportive friendship.
