The Queen could face 'embarrassment and heartache' if Meghan Markle's resurfaced diary comes to light, a royal insider has warned.

Meghan Markle could bring 'embarrassment and heartache' to the Queen if she was to publish her recently rediscovered diary, a royal insider has warned.

In a new interview with the Cut, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that she came across the forgotten journal at Frogmore Cottage in June when she and Prince Harry returned to the UK for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Having not seen the notebook since moving to North America in January 2020, the 41-year-old was admittedly surprised to re-read the contents of its entries.

"You go back and you open drawers and you're like, Oh my gosh. This is what I was writing in my journal there?" she said.

Meghan, who has since accused Buckingham Palace of racism and failing to help her when she was suffering from poor mental health, reportedly recorded her tumultuous experience in the Royal Family as an 'insurance policy'. It's understood that she was motivated to document her ordeal after becoming aware of the  UK media's negative coverage of her. The bombshell news comes in the same interview that Meghan opened up about her relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, and hinted at a return to Instagram

"Harry and Meghan were told to ignore social media and newspapers but sometimes staff would say to them, 'So sorry about what was written the other day', and she would hit the roof. She wrote it all in her diary as an insurance policy," an insider told the Sun.

It's now feared that the journal, which was reportedly kept for the entire time that Meghan served as a working royal, could be published and even made into a book.

"If it ever saw the light of day it would surely be dynamite," another royal insider said. "By the sounds of it, this journal was rediscovered this summer, boxed up, and shipped back to Montecito."

The possibility of Meghan writing a book with the diary entries is reportedly now a major concern for the Royal Family, who are worried that the duchess' outspoken nature could have a negative impact on its 96-year-old matriarch.

"She [Meghan] had enough time in the royal fold to learn secrets, some decades old, which could cause embarrassment and heartache for the Queen and her family, but could earn a fortune for Meghan," said Margaret Holder, author of Diana: The Caring Princess.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will visit the UK next month to attend the One Young World Summit in Manchester on September 5th, before heading to Germany for Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023 One Year To Go event.

They'll then return to England for the WellChild Awards on September 8th, where the duke is expected to deliver a speech, before flying back to their $14 million Santa Barbara mansion in Montecito. It's understood that Harry and Meghan will not see the Queen at Balmoral Castle during their stay, due to ongoing disputes over the couple's security.
