The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have joined in with the rest of the nation to get behind Captain Tom Moore, as he fundraises a record amount for the NHS.

  • Prince William praised the 99-year-old in video message, calling him a ‘one-man fundraising machine’.
  • The lovely gesture comes as the Duke and Duchess have released details of their new campaign to help people look after their mental health.
  • This follows royal news that they shared a lovely new picture of theirKensington Palace home.

Kensington Palace has confirmed that the royal duo have contributed an ‘undisclosed’ amount to Captain Tom Moore’s cause.

While his intial aim was to raise just £1,000 for NHS Charities Together by completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday, the total of donations has now exceeded £18 million.

In a video sent to Captain Tom, William said, “It’s amazing, what I love also is that he’s a 99-year-old war veteran, he’s been around a long time, knows everything, and it’s wonderful that everyone has been inspired by his story and his determination.

“So he’s a one-man fundraising machine and god knows what the final total will be, but good on him, I hope he keeps going.”

William and Catherine’s donation to Captain Tom Moore’s cause comes as they join the Every Mind Matters appeal, aimed at supporting everyone with their mental wellbeing during COVID19.

New data shows that over 4 in 5 adults are worried about the effect that coronavirus (COVID-19) is having on their life right now, with over half saying it affected their wellbeing and nearly half reporting high levels of anxiety.

To help spread the message about the importance of mental health during this difficult period, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge narrated a powerful video.

Other famous faces have also joined the royals to help the initiative, like Nadiya Hussain, Professor Green and footballer Jesse Lingard.

Davina McCall also joined in, and said, “To look after my mind and my mental health exercise is the number one thing I do. It is so important to stay active for mind and body, especially during times of isolation. There are so many options online to exercise at home and for free.

“Number two would be talk to friends and family. There are so many things that we can all do to help ourselves when we’re feeling down. It’s down to us as friends and parents to look out for people who are behaving slightly differently. Don’t just stop asking them if they’re okay, let them know you’re there.”

Head over to the Every Mind Matters website and check out their recommendations on how you can keep yourself mentally and physically health.

And in the words of Captain Tom, who finished his 100th lap on Thursday 16 April, “At the end of the day we shall all be ok.

“The sun will shine on you again and the clouds will go away.”
