Last month we were both shocked and very sad to learn that Regé-Jean Page wouldn’t be returning to his role as the Duke of Hastings in the Netflix show Bridgerton.
Hearts were broken everywhere when we realised the Duke—the handsome character who got us all our hot under the collar earlier this year—wouldn’t be gracing our screens again.
However, up until now Regé-Jean’s co-star Phoebe Dynevor had kept very tight-lipped on how she felt about her on-screen love interest not returning to Bridgerton. But the actress has now revealed her thoughts about how it will affect the show.

The star announced his departure from the show via its Instagram page last month and fans were devastated, with many complaining that his character ‘was the show’.
A few weeks later Page Six claimed the real reason that Regé-Jean Page left the show was because of ‘creative differences’ between Regé and executive producer Shonda Rhimes.
Fans all around the world and some famous faces have shared their opinions on the actor’s departure, and now on-screen wife Phoebe Dynevor has broken her silence by admitting to Variety: “I had a bit of a heads up so I knew but yeah, I guess it is a spanner.”
Regé originally announced his departure from the show claiming it was the plan from the start. In an Instagram post, he shared a photo of himself in character with a heartfelt caption thanking the cast and crew for his time on the show.

However, even though Phoebe said his departure would cause some problems to the show’s storyline she also pointed out that: “The show centres around the Bridgertons and there are eight books. I think maybe the fans of the books were more aware of that happening than the fans of the show.
“I think fans of the books know that every [season] is about a different sibling. And we’re very much passing the baton to the lovely Johnny, who plays Anthony. Obviously it’s sad to to see [Regé-Jean] go but I’m looking forward to being reunited with my with my family.”
The second season of the show is filming now and there will be some fan-favourites, including Sex Education’s Simone Ashley cast as Anthony Bridgerton’s love interest. Netflix also revealed that Charithra Chandran will play Edwina Sharma, Kate’s younger sister, and Shelley Conn will play Mary Sharma, Kate’s mother. Calam Lynch will take on the role of Theo Sharpe and Rupert Young is set to play Jack.
