But if it's wine and Champagne you're after, look no further because Aldi is here to make your day. Back with its most premium collection to date, Aldi’s ICON range consists of 29 stand out wines that are up to 75% cheaper than competitors, meaning you won’t have to sacrifice on taste if you’re watching the pennies. From a delightful 2012 vintage Champagne to a crisp Californian Cabernet Sauvignon, there’s a bottle for every taste and every budget with prices ranging from £5.49 to £24.99.
On a mission to open up the world of wine for its customers, Aldi have included wines from some of the most highly regarded regions throughout the new collection. Shoppers will be able to enjoy a vintage 2012 version of the popular Veuve Monsigny Champagne, with 2012 being one of the four great vintage years for Champagne so far this century. Previously, Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny Champagne has been compared to Lanson Black Label and Laurent-Perrier, both of which cost nearly four times the price, so we’re predicting a sell out of this vintage edition, which will set you back £19.99.
Other standout mentions are the Lyme Bay English Sparkling, a crisp English wine that sits somewhere between Champagne and Prosecco, made at a small winery in Dorset and the aromatic Leon Vatan Sancerre 2019 which comes in at £14.99 and goes extremely well with oily fish dishes.
For reds, we recommend picking up a bottle of Cocodrilo Argentinian Malbec 2019, providing a long intense fruity finish, it contains notes of plum and blackberry and works perfectly well when paired with cheese - a great option for Christmas day. Whilst the Specially Selected Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2015 comes in at just £6.49, it’s dry on the palette with an earthy finish so a good option for those who love a more full bodied wine.
The full range will be available online, with the first few bottles available for order now, but get in there fast, we predict these brilliant wines won’t be around for long.
