There’s no crying in baseball… but we might allow some tears of happiness for fans of A League of Their Own, the beloved classic about a women’s baseball team defying the odds and forming a sisterhood.
The original 1992 movie starred Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, Lori Petty, Madonna, and Rosie O’Donnell and was directed by the late Penny Marshall.
Hailed by many as a true classic, the movie told a fictionalized account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). In 2012, the movie was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
Now, Amazon are stepping up to bat with their own remake. Here’s what we know about the new mini-series.
What is the plot of A League of Their Own 2022?
Though evocative of the original movie, which followed the Rockford Peaches as they conquered the game, Amazon’s version won’t be a direct remake.
As explained in their official synopsis, “A League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall's beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it."
Who is starring in the A League of Their Own remake?
The new series has a huge ensemble cast, headed up by Broad City star and co-creator, Abbi Jacobson.
The Good Place’s D’Arcy Carden also stars, as does Parks & Recreation comedian Nick Offerman.

What is the release date for A League of Their Own?
Good news for fans who want to get the ball rolling – the series will debut on Prime Video on August 12.
All eight episodes of the show will be available to stream at once, across every territory where Prime Video streams.
