British brand Lavender Hill Clothing have seen a huge spike in sales, and it’s all thanks to a certain royal stepping out in one of their t-shirts.
In July last year, shortly after she tied the knot to Prince Harry, Meghan was first spotted layering Lavender Hill Clothing’s white boat neck t-shirt under her Givenchy suit. And, proving that even royals love a bargain – it’s priced at just £35.
Considerably more purse-friendly than her designer two piece! And rumour has it, Meghan orders them herself – direct to the palace.
In fact, Meghan loves the fit of this wardrobe staple so much that she owns it in black too. The Duchess wore this version during her pregnancy, whilst accompanying Prince Harry to WE Day at Wembley Arena back in November.
And for Lavender Hill Clothing, the effect of the so-called ‘Markle Sparkle’ were instant. When Meghan first wore their t-shirt, online sales went up by 98% with a 237% increase in visitors to the site.
Since then, yearly online sales have grown 62% with international orders have increasing by a staggering 15995%. With the majority of these coming from America, it seems our friends across the pond are as keen as ever to keep up with Meghan’s style.
Founded in 2013 by a then 24-year-old Isobel Ridley, the Lavender Hill Clothing had one aim, to create simple, luxurious but affordable pieces that you will want to wear every day.
"Lavender Hill Clothing’s aim is to produce clothing to be proud of and to make you, our customer, feel good mentally and physically when wearing the brand. Customers are increasingly caring about the manufacturing process as well as the final product," Isobel explains.
"As such, they are looking for brands they can trust, both in terms of creative design and philosophy."
Meghan has always been an advocate for thoughtful fashion, notably wearing clothes from sustainable conscious Stella McCartney and eco brand Reformation, so it’s no surprise the Lavender Hill ethos touched a chord with her.

She caught the magazine bug during a stint as Fashion Editor of her university newspaper alongside her English degree, and hasn’t looked back since. As for the fashion bug, that came as part and parcel of growing up in the 90s, but the less said about that the better!
Jess’ average day in the office is spent researching the latest fashion trends, chatting to industry tastemakers and scouring the internet to bring you this season’s must-buy pieces - as well as advice on how to wear them. Weekends are equally fashion-focused, and Jess has been known to visit no less than five Zara stores in a single day in search of the perfect occasion dress.
The only thing that comes close to a buzz of finally tracking down that much-coveted dress is the joy of discovering a new beauty wonder product or hero ingredient. A beauty obsessive, Jess has tried everything from cryotherapy to chemical peels (minus the Samantha in Sex and The City-worthy redness) and interviewed experts including Jo Malone and Trinny Woodall.
