  • Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have opened up about the difficulties of being a member of the royal family whilst also juggling private, professional lives, in a brand new interview.

Speaking to British Vogue, the York sisters discussed their unique position, sharing how tough it can be to get the balance right.

Princess Beatrice, 29, said, “It’s hard to navigate situations like these because there is no precedent, there is no protocol.”

She continued, “We are the first: we are young women trying to build careers and have personal lives, and we’re also princesses, and doing all of this in the public eye.’

“We want to show people who we are as working, young, royal women, but also not to be afraid of putting ourselves out there.”

“Nowadays it’s so easy to recoil when you see a perfect image on Instagram – but it’s important that it’s real. We’re real.”

While Eugenie and Beatrice take part in various duties on behalf of the Queen, as the daughters of Prince Andrew, they also hold down their own, day-to-day jobs. Princess Eugenie works as an art director at the London gallery Hauser and Wirth, while Beatrice works in the financial sector.

Princess Eugenie is also the first modern-day royal to have her own personal, public Instagram account, where she regular shares pictures of her days.

However, despite their aim to portray a real, honest version of themselves, the sisters admitted that constant press and public scrutiny of them can be tough.

They revealed that things got on top of them just before attending a Buckingham Palace garden party a few years back, but that their support of each other helped them through.

Princess Eugenie confessed, “There was a horrible article that had been written about Beatrice and she got really upset.

“We were just about to step out and she had a bit of a wobble and cried. I was looking after her.

“And then about an hour later, I had a wobble and started crying and Bea was there for me.”

Sarah Ferguson’s daughters have undeniably had their fair share of criticism over the years. Following the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding, the pair were mocked for their outfit choices – in particular, their hats. And scrutiny has followed them throughout the rest of their lives.

But the two royals are looking forward to happy times in the near future. On 12th October, Princess Eugenie will of course marry her boyfriend of seven years, Jack Brooksbank.

And during the interview with British Vogue, Eugenie revealed that she has asked Beatrice to be her ‘chief bridesmaid’, or maid-of-honour, on the big day.

Of the wedding planning, Princess Eugenie went on to reveal that she’s pretty relaxed – and is simply excited to be marrying the love of her life.

She said, “I’m not stressed at all. It’s nerve-racking because you want it to be perfect, but then you realise that you’re going to be with the person you love forever and nothing else really matters.”

Princess Beatrice agreed, “Euge is amazing. She’s a very modern bride.”

In the interview, Eugenie also revealed that her Windsor wedding will be plastic-free.
