Samantha Jones will return for And Just Like That Season 2, but not in the way you might think.
The beloved PR maven will be featured in the second installment of the Sex and the City reboot, much to the delight of the franchise's devout fans.
And Just Like That Season 2 plans to continue exploring the relationship between protagonist Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) in its upcoming plotlines, after the on-screen friends drifted apart over a nasty business dispute in the first season. But before you get overly excited about this juicy update, there are a few caveats worth keeping in mind.
Kim Cattrall will again be an absent figure in the second round of episodes, sticking with her decision to reject the reprisal of her role as the New York publicist in And Just Like That Season 1.
However, her character's presence will prevail with the magic of technology in the second batch of episodes, as writers vow to build on the virtual communication Carrie and Samantha shared in the reboot's first season.
The HBO Max series even included a scene of Sarah Jessica Parker's character reaching out to Samantha, who has abandoned New York for a high-flying new life in London. In the poignant exchange, Carrie texts her old friend to see if she'd like to go for cocktails - an invitation that is quickly accepted with the offer, "How's tomorrow night?"
Sex and the City fans can now anticipate more details about the ladies' reconciliation to feature in And Just Like That Season 2, with show creator Michael Patrick King giving a hard, 'Yes', when asked if Samantha and Carrie will continue talking in the second series.
"It’s very funny because every single one of the writers has a different version of what happened during that conversation," he told Variety.
"So, I think there was some champagne. I think there was a grownup back and forth, and a love affair that they realized that something’s more important than being afraid to heal."
As for how he thinks Carrie and Samantha's drinks date went down, Michael assured fans that they had "a great time."
"To me, they had a great night and things became resolved," he said. "Once Carrie let go of an old, old love, one of her current loves came back in."
