What is Ted Lasso about?
Packed full of comedy and drama in equal measure, Ted Lasso focuses on the titular character of Ted, who moved to London to manage the struggling English Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond. Unfortunately for Ted (who is an American college football coach), this isn’t a sport he has any experience in. And this is something Rebecca Welton, the club’s owner, was counting on when she appointed him to his radically different new role.
Furious at her unfaithful ex-husband, Rebecca went about getting revenge in the most public and impressive way she knew how - by hiring Ted and watching as his lack of soccer coaching ability ruins the club.
The AFC Richmond players are initially skeptical about their new coach but it’s not long before Ted’s charisma, optimism and humor start to win them all over. Since Ted Lasso first landed in August 2020 critics and fans at home alike have been seriously wowed by the brilliant performances and storyline. So much so that Brett Goldstein (club captain Roy Kent) and Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton) won best supporting actor and actress for Ted Lasso at the Emmys last year.
Whilst Jason Sudeikis won a Golden Globe for his role in Ted Lasso in 2021, as well as the award for Best Leading Comedy Actor at the Emmys.
How many seasons of Ted Lasso are there?
There are currently just two seasons of Ted Lasso available to stream, though there is good news for newcomers who've quickly been drawn in to the hilarious comedy-drama. Whilst Ted Lasso season 1 includes just ten brilliant instalments, the second season has upped this to twelve. And the Ted Lasso news got even better in October 2020 when the show was renewed for a season 3.
Is there a release date for Ted Lasso season 3?
Unfortunately for any long-time Ted Lasso fans hoping for confirmation that Ted Lasso will be back bringing his unique style of coaching to life very soon, no Ted Lasso season 3 release date has been announced yet. However, we at least have the brilliant news that one will be forthcoming since the show was renewed for a third instalment.
As reported by the Radio Times - and likely much to the relief of fans - Jason Sudeikis will be back as Ted, Hannah Waddington will return as Rebecca and Juno Temple will continue to delight viewers as Rebecca's best friend Keeley Jones. Brett Goldstein will also be in Ted Lasso season 3 as Roy and the third season is thought to be well underway now.
However, whilst we don't yet have a Ted Lasso season 3 release date, it could be that this will be the final outing of the popular show. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly last year, Jason, who co-created the show, discussed how he originally envisioned the show to be three seasons long.
"I mean, I don't know. The story that I know is the one that I wanted to tell, and so that's the one we're telling with the help of numerous people in front of and behind the camera, so it's by no means me typing every key stroke and saying every word. It's nowhere near like that," he said.
Jason continued, "But the story that's being told - that three-season arc - is one that I see, know, and understood. I'm glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don't know."
So although the show might have been conceived as a "three-season arc" one, given the popularity of Ted Lasso, who knows whether the massive fan response could see it expand beyond that. Either way, now you know how to watch Ted Lasso where you are there's time to enjoy all your favorite moments ahead of a season 3 release date being announced
